1996 Geo Tracker Geo LSi review from North America

Clutch pedal fell on the floor (disconnected).

Right outside rear-view mirror will not move out (away from the body) enough.

Emission system failed (Check Engine Light On) : Caused a failure of State Emissions & took a number of $'s to find & repair the problem. Okay now.

This vehicle needs a tilt steering wheel!!

(Not offered even as an option in 1996.)

Also should have had a higher ratio top gear. I can easily shift into 5th @ 25 mph. That's way too slow & affects noise & mpg @ high speed. Consequently: RPM's @ high speed are higher than necessary.

Not enough power: This is not a car to own in a hilly area. It is fine on flat/level ground.

Pretty reliable & inexpensive to own: Solid 30+ mpg city or highway.

Got the car from my nephew when he graduated from college. I'd never owned a 4X4 & had driven this car a # of times in the past. Thought it was a cute, neat, easy to maintain & fun to drive vehicle.

I've owned it for 5 years & have put 50k miles on it. It has been a great little mini-SUV to own. Inexpensive to operate, fun to drive & the 4X4 system works great! Have experienced a number of repairs due to age/mileage: clutch, emissions system (failed state exam) & brakes. Engine & transmission appear to be strong. A/C works great. Power equipment (radio, windows, locks, mirrors, cruise, rear window defogger & wiper) all still working. All in all, a pretty decent, inexpensive, fun vehicle to own. I'd consider replacing it with the updated Suzuki model when the time comes.
