1996 GMC Pickup C2500 HD review from North America

The vinyl drivers side seat of this truck has a huge hole in it. When exiting the vehicle, all your body weight is placed on the edge that tears.

The A/c compressor bearing seized at about 60,000 requiring a used compressor and charge.

The front end is really loose (ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm) and are quite costly to replace. I think its mainly from towing.

The intake gasket blew today at 69,217. I replaced it myself, about $40 in parts. Completely flushed the cooling system with a chemical flush and used a Prestone flushing kit ($3.99). Topped the cooling system off with a Prestone universal antifreeze that is suppost to be compatable with all makes/models.

I bought this truck at a city auction back in 2002. The truck was fairly well maintained. It was used to patch potholes so it must have a ton of idle time on it.

I use the truck to tow police cars on a 2250lb trailer. The truck pulls the combined weight of 6250lbs on the freeway with no problems. I usually keep the speed at around 65-70MPH when towing. Even though this truck has vinyl seats/vinyl floors, its very comfortable on long trips.

The transmission has held up remarkably well. I believe its the original 4L80E. I change the fluid very often and use a bottle of Red Lubeguard at every change.

The 4L80E (HD Trans) is the only way to go for a GM of this vintage.
