1988 GMC Sierra 2500 4X4 review from North America

The alternator went sour the day I bought the truck (my kind of luck). It was the easiest repair job I've ever done though, because there is an unreal amount of room under the hood and everything is very accessible!

My fuel pump needed to be replaced at roughly 213000km, but I've heard that it's pretty common for that to happen around that mileage.

It was stolen, so the steering column and a bunch of trim had to be replaced. I wouldn't mention the theft in the 'problems' category, but I have to as it is in the top 4 popular cars to steal in my area. They are apparently very easy to steal.

Paint has peeled on the roof and hood. That's the way I bought it.

This truck has been fantastic to me. I replaced it with a smaller newer import car to help save on gas, but I have switched back to driving the Sierra.

Its best quality is its reliability. For example: I drove my car all winter and let the snow bury the truck. Temperatures drop to -30's Celcius and I didn't start it once over winter. I dug it out and it fired on the first try... not even a sputter.

I use it frequently on forestry roads, so it takes a bit of a pounding. I have only ever had one problem while way out in the bush, but was able to limp it home (3 hours out of town and it got me to the shop).

It rides super smooth and will haul pretty much anything. I gave it a 7 out of 10 for running cost. It does chew a bit more gas than I'd like, but as for maintenance it is cheap. Parts are cheap, and as I said before, it's quite reliable for what it's put through.

I want to paint over the peeling roof and hood so it doesn't succumb to rust.
