Service 4WD light came on at 10,000 miles. Noticeable noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. clanking. No problems found at dealer.
Service 4WD light came on at 12,000. Noticeable noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. clanking. Dealer replace U joint in drive-shaft with one made from nichol???. No problem found on 4WD.
4WD switches stopped functioning properly at 15,000 miles. Would not go from 4WD to 2WD without going through the automatic button. Dealer replaced 3 switches before getting it right.
Air noise and leaking rear two windows and around front passenger door frame.
Bumping in steering column when turning.
Noticeable noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. clanking. Also now at times when it downshifts when stopping. 23,000 miles. Awaiting appointment to fix air leaks / noise. Steering column is on service alert and national backorder. Clanking on the shift between 2-3 still no problem found. Must be "normal".
I am becoming concerned! Especially with noise on the shift. Fear it will become something majot after warranty expires.
I have a 2003 sierra it has clunks when shifting between all gears moist pronouced 1-2 2-3also shifts hard could be slipping. more pronouced when towing my boat. Dealer says its normal? Iam going to go to arbitration with gmc.
I own a 2004 GMC Sierra X-Cab 4X4 fully loaded, bought it brand new. I started having problems with this truck at 700 miles with a severe wind noise coming in around windshield. Dealer deemed windshield not properly installed at factory, so a new windshield was installed with new moldings per GMC. Problem was still existing, tuck has been back 5 times and the problem was not corrected. The truck now has 18,000 miles on it now still have the wind noise, also a right front power seat motor had to be replaced very load noise when moving seat.
3 heat control heads had to be installed at three different times since it woked for about a day or two. A/C compressor had to be replaced was making a growling noise all the time. Side view mirror switch had to be replaced twice. Turning the steering wheel left and right makes clunking noise worst when cold, chattering, clunking and slip in transmission or drivetrain when pulling away from a stop or a slow roll, rear-end has been apart for that problem and problem still exists. Rear seat heat, one duct blows air the other one can't budge it. The truck is at the dealer as I write this, because yesterday the 4 wheel drive service light came on and the 4 wheel drive is not working and they think it needs a module.
I spent a lot of money on this new truck and dealing with all of these issues as if I purchased a used truck with no cooperation from GMC. Very disappointed with this truck, all this information provided is all documented complaints with some still existing.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 Z-71. Bought new in late 2003. It has been back to the dealership 7 TIMES!!! First few times it was for hard shifting from first to second gear. I was told that they adjusted the shift in the computer. Finally the third time they fixed the problem so that it is bearable. (still not happy though). Then there was a loud rattle in the drivers side door. Come to find out the window motor had fallen out and needed to be replaced. Then there was a noticeable vibration and sound near throttle. Back to dealership to find that the throttle lever was broken (what would have happened if if had ever become stuck?, thanks for the safety GM). Then after an oil change by dealer, the steering wheel felt like it was going to fall off from extreme vibration. Back to dealer and the fix was "intermediate steering shaft was dry". OK why would that happen after less than 25,000 miles. Then just today after using the auto-4wd on icy roads and returning the drive train to 2wd, a message "service 4wd" appeared. Not to mention the poor poor quality of the truck and the rattles and sounds that it makes. I wonder if the dealer has an quality FORDS that this one time Chevy fan can make a trade on. Good luck GM fans, these trucks are terrible.
