1996 GMC Sonoma sls hirider review from North America
"A fair truck for pavement use with no load"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
GM Sonoma 1996 hi-rider service record:
transfer case blew out at 13,000 miles
transfer case blew out at 26,000 miles
transmission blew at 32,000 miles
all this was under warranty
lifters blew 78,000 miles
transmission blew 100,000 miles
various other small repairs and maintenance tires, brakes about normal
repeated shorts in backup lites
still a problem.
General comments?
I have done a very small amount of lite weight towing (log splitter garden tractor trailer) and maybe at most a thousand miles of 4x4 off road with vehicle.
I would not buy another Sonoma (and probably not the new canyon) for the same purpose again, the power train is just too lite for my needs.
