Bought for 50 pounds.
Needed repaint, new brakes all-round, new clutch, new dynamo, new starter motor.
My first car.
Learned how to repair cars on this car.
Engine knocked after running big-ends by driving too fast.
(Crankshaft had only three main bearings.)
En-route to scrapyard, drove too fast over hump-back bridge, took off, flew for 100 feet.
Heavy landing destroyed car.
Bought another car.
Pull the other one old fruit - cars don't fly for 100 feet except in the movies.
Should explain that this was a deliberate attempt to destroy the car.
Had a friend on the bridge signalling it was clear on the other side.
Took off at about 65 mph.
Didn't measure the distance with a tape-measure.
Don't ruin a good story with the facts.

Let's see now, 60 mph is 88 ft/sec.
And it wasn't so high off the ground.
Must have been more like 30-40 feet.
It doesn't matter surely, it's a story.
Where can I pick up such a cheap car? Saw one of these advertised for £599, hence me looking through, but doesn't sound like it's worth it. Checked out auto-trader/exchange and mart. Local tips have nothing. Where should I be looking??
I had the dubious pleasure of owning one of these monsters. No power steering, so parallel parking was impossible. It was mostly in the shop so parking wasn't much of a problem. Never saw another one since (46 years ago). Stick shift that was very stiff, on the floor and sometimes took both hands to move. What a nightmare.
After I got rid of it, all I could afford was a 1959 Renault Dauphine... probably the worst car I ever had... I dunno, it's a toss-up with the Hillman.
