1998 Holden Calais HSV Enhanced review from Australia and New Zealand

"Can't fault the car. Even with the things that went wrong, the pros outweighed the cons by far"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

CD stacker stoped working (cog that holds the CD's in the stack wore out).

Tyre blew out (dealer put cheap tyres on, doesn't help when you're going over 200km/h either :S)

Altenator reco'd at 173000km.

Powerstearing rack replaced at 185000km.

Drivers electric window started getting stuck, but fixed itself a month later.

General comments?

Beside everything that has went wrong, I'd buy this car again for its sheer luxury. The interior simple but sophisticated.

Stupidly quick. 195kw and 400nm. Overtaking a semi truck takes about 3 seconds. So comfortable to drive in any traffic conditions.

One thing is even when the traction control is full on, the power tends to brake traction and you start going sideways down the highway. Raced VT with a 5.7 Gen III v8 in it at the drags and it was side by side the whole way. Might have had advantage because of the FE2 Sport Suspension, S-03 Potenzzas and a decent camber kit on her.

Went to a track day and got her up to 240km/h (150mph), and she just feels so stable. Great handling for a family sedan.

I even got 780km's to a tank while driving up to Sydney. That's a fair good effort for a sports car.

Overall an amazing car. Can't fault it, even with the things that went wrong; the pros outweighed the cons by far.
