The Fuel Pump broke at 204000.
The Speedometer was sticking.
The doors could be opened with any key.
Gemini Keys could start the engine, but The keys won't start a Gemini.
The rear light flicker on and off.
There was considerable transmission lag.
The Air conditioner Stopped working at 207000.
My head gasket blew at 203000 kilometers.
This car rode too low.
The front wheels did not grip well.
The cabin looks and feels like its made of very cheap plasting tht does'nt fit well together.
Funny you should mention the part about Gemini keys fitting the Camira. My Gemini keys will open the door, boot and start my fathers JD Camira Sedan. If you ask me about Camiras they go alright, but definatly not a sturdy vechile.
I had a JB Camira 1984, had 188,000kms on it it was an SL/X. The Air-con stopped working at 143,000kms. before I got it. that was from the previous owner. rust rust rust was main trouble in the body. back windows, front doors. The stupid carby was a pain. by the time it travelled 250,000kms. it became very smokey and died. So it went to the wreckers. Then I was given a camira SLE sedan JE 1989. was a much better vehicle compared to the JB. 2 litre EFi made much easier to start and run much better. But the Rust Rust Rust was still a pain in the same areas. it had 133,000kms on it. the electric windows died at 142,000kms. then about 144,000kms the electric mirrors died. then the front left indicator fell out. the the alternator died. then the fuel pump decided to go. then had to get a new radiator. then had to get new suspension. then had to get a new fron door as the rust got too bad. at around 156,000kms the motor died put a big hole through it. so got new motor $500 put it in and traded the car in got $2500 for it. then we got a hyundai excel 97 lx 5 door. its just as bad. starting to rust in the doors and its hard to start plus the air-con doesn't work anymore only has 139,000kms. nice car with silver paint, alloy wheels, tinted windows and and $10,000 price tag. also had to get new C.V. joints (steering). better off keeping the camira.
Well we did'nt have the rust problem because it was rust protected from new and garaged its whole life. Still I think it would possibly be the worst car available for sale in the 80's in Australia except for the magna or anything made by Lada.
