1991 Holden Commodore VP review from Australia and New Zealand
"Quickest V6, reliable, looks great"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A boot leak which comes from the tail light seal. A common problem with this model which can easily be fixed with water proof sealent.
Rear wheel bearings went. fixed for about $80.
General comments?
Excellent car for both its reliability and performance. the car always starts without a problem.
Very responsive acceleration. the VP V6 is the quickest of any V6 commodore due to its power to weight ratio. 127 kilowatts of power in a car that weighs only 1335 kilos. The VN and VS aren't far off in terms of staight line performance, but the VP is still quicker. (especially with a few modifications) The newer, heavier V6 commodores are too slow.
Fuel economy is OK if the car is driven wisely. but if you have a lead foot and like to give the car a bit of a thrash, fuel econonomy, like expected deteriorates.
Dangerous in wet weather until you get use to the car. great fun getting the car sideways if your careful. the back end loves hanging out.
The car is does not have great handling. I would recommend lower suspension.
Overall it is a fantastic and reliable car that offers great performance. the car also does good burnouts- it likes it.
