I have a 2001 JS2 Vectra auto, which has done 122000 ks, and I can tell you now it was the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE purchasing it!
From the second I bought it, I've had nothing but trouble with all the stupid electrics they put in it.
Very frequently the car's revs will drop and switch off for no reason at the lights, or will over rev itself when I'm driving, making the car go faster and harder to brake.
The engine light will switch on, but no codes come up, so nothing can be done to fix it.
I get to nervous to drive my car now, but no one will buy it for a reasonable price. My dad is a auto electrician, and he has used his code clearing machine to detect what the faults are, but the crappy thing about these cars is they break down and reboot themselves, so no code comes up, so there's nothing to fix!
All of you others going to mechanics who say they can't find anything are not lying, they hate Vectras and Astras, and over charge cause they don't want to deal with them. Get rid of it while you can before it goes into the 150000, and make sure you have the timing belt replaced every 60000 ks, or you're up for real trouble.
Hi Everyone!
I too have a 2001 Holden/Opel Vectra JS 11 GL 2.2 and it has had a list of issues.
Firstly the radiator hoses and a valve near the firewall failed and I was fortunate not to cook the engine.
I replaced the timing chain and the bearings (for good measure) before the recommended mileage, after hearing horror stories.
The dash lights are an ongoing issue, at the moment most are unlit including the automatic console, can anyone help?
The fuel tank overflow started leaking necessitating removal of the petrol tank to repair it.
The dear old Ford Falcon just keeps rolling on with no issues. Why did I buy a Vectra?
I have just brought a Holden Vectra 2.5 V6 CD 1999, and now having over-heating problems. Maybe the radiator needs replacing at $400 plus labour, and as you can guess, it's not an easy job!! Does anyone else have trouble with over-heating, if so HELP!
The car itself runs very well touch wood, except for the common dash-board lights not working all the time, or the odd sensor breaking.
I have also noticed that when I turn the radio on, sometimes the temp gauge goes through the roof, anyone else had this problem??
I'm english, and trust me Holden mechanics are the worst to deal with in England, OZ or anywhere; best to go to a performance specialist; you pay a bit more per hour, but cheaper long term as they know what they are doing!
Straight up the JS98 2.2 Vectra is the devil car. It drives well, when it's not playing up. I agree, don't go to Holden if you have any mechanical ability, do it yourself. But the car has 122k on it and I'm just trying to get rid of it now. It's a shame that the electrics are so awful, cause it's a real comfy car.
