1980 Honda Accord review from Australia and New Zealand

Engine fixed to stop emissions, new thermostat, timing belt replaced. All up we've spent maybe $600 on the car to fix it. She cost $1500 in the first place.

Add to this standard things like tyres being replaces etc.

The door handle was ruined by a friend, who also reversed into her without looking and broke the visor: (It took 3 months to fix the car due to there being a severe shortage of parts apparently.)

The interior is looking a little worn, but that happens with time, plus there is a very small oil leak that's been there for years.

This car was bought in an emergency, and has in 5 years broken down once ever (thermostat). This is the second time someone in the family has owned an Accord of this age, and I am surprised at what a reliable little car it's been. We've used it when other (newer) cars have had problems, and she's even had to tow a Commodore station wagon (large car) before. It's travelled all over the countryside, and was driven 1500 kilometres in one trip. I can't stress enough how loyal and reliable this little car has been.

Obviously, the comfort of larger, newer cars is just not there, and I realise that age is very soon going to catch up with her, so as of next year, she will be retired to suburbia where she can live out the rest of her days driving to the shops and back.

I couldn't recommend a car like this more, we've never had a problem with brakes, steering or rust, and most importantly, she's never come back from a service with the mechanics concerned for the safety of the car.
