1981 Honda Accord LX review from North America
"The car just needed a little love"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The problems it had when I bought it:
Carburetor, tie rods, right axle/CV joint, timing belt and alternator belt, radio, A/C, defrost, rear wiper, seats torn, and RUSTY body.
Problems now:
Radio, A/C, defrost, rear wiper, seats torn, and RUSTY body. But I don't think I will even bother with those.
General comments?
I bought it for $200 and have replaced:
Carburetor, tie rods, timing belt, alternator belt, axle, gas cap, distributor cap & rotor, spark plugs and wires.
The owner before me did nothing but change the oil, so of course when I got the car, it was in shambles. Sputtered, backfired and drove terribly.
After taking it to a Honda specialist and spending $1500 on parts and labor (over 3 months and some things I did myself), the car runs like its brand new!
My little Honda is reliable and pretty fast (for having only 70HP or so), and gets 27mpg in the city (even though I do drive with an iron fist and a lead foot).
In short this car isn't just a member of the family, it's my baby. I love my Honda as if it were my child, and I will never get rid of it.
