1999 Honda Accord EX review from North America

The transmission started to slip around 81,000 miles. It would jerk the RPMs rate in between gears, especially the 1st to 2nd gear. Thankfully due to my powertrain warranty, the transmission was fixed for free.

104,000 Miles; The car would stall frequently and the alternator was replaced. Fixed the problem.

125,000 Miles; Drivers window gear broke, leaving my window stuck in the 'down' position. Not too expensive to fix.

Nagging 'Check Engine' Light Emissions Issues in the 130ks; Minor in terms of cost for car repairs.

Many suspension parts replaced throughout the late 150-160ks such as tie rods.

160ks, the passenger side door locks work inconsistently and have to be manually locked most of the time.

174,000 miles. Transmission slipping again. Check Engine Light on. ABS sensor light on. Rest in Peace!

My Accord has been through a lot of Ohio winters, city driving, and lengthy highway trips. I've had my share of problems with the car, not to mention the regular repairs and replacements (spark plugs, brakes, oil changes, tires, battery, plus the preventative $400 timing belt replacement etc).

My car seemed to have some of the same nagging problems I see on these boards for the 98-02 Accords; the transmission slipping (esp 1st to 2nd gear) and check engine lights. I've noticed the check engine issues typically do not effect the performance of the car, but that light cannot be 'on' or you will not pass Ohio Emission Tests. However, I got pretty lucky with my transmission issues; had I not this would be a much more bitter review.

Climbed pretty high in the mileage though; never had issues with many parts that typically get replaced in vehicles; shocks/struts, mufflers/pipes, engine, A/C, electric, etc.
