1991 Honda Accord Ex Type R review from North America
"Very good very solid car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
any currency mentioned are in canadian
-Alternator has went- 100 dollars (all mechanical issues mentions were all serviced by me, my dad, my godfather, or our personal mechanic)
-battery had to be replaced twice over 4 years and will be replaced again this year (only because I am wanting to, not that the battery drains or anything, buying an optima battery for stereo system) first time being 80 second being 70
Notes on battery and alternator- The only reasons for the battery and alternator has went dead is because of my none existent knowledge on stereo systems and how to hook them up as I hooked up my stereo system in the wrong way and that is solemnly my fault.
-Distributor has went twice in 4 years (Honda Accord has been known for distributor problems, mainly 3rd and 4rth generation, I am not sure of 5th and 6th yet though although I would like to find out by buying one) was a cheap fix for about 100 dollars.
-brakes and rotors- brakes changed twice in the past 4 years and rotors once, 120 dollars for brakes, 380 dollars for rotors (rotors and brakes were performance brakes and rotors)
-muffler changed 4 times in 4 years and exhaust has been changed once this year. It started leaking and had holes. Me, my father and our mechanic just gave the go ahead of replacing the whole stock exhaust with stainless steal performance exhaust with a performance muffler by magnaflow, also ridding of that resonator, I think that this will be the end of changing the muffler and exhaust though. Also a note about Honda Accords, when speedy lifted my car to take a look at the underbody, it was completely clean, no rust on the underbody at all, that's only due to Honda under spraying the car at factory, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK HONDA.
-Spark plugs and spark plug wires changed to Nology Wires and NGK Iridium spark plugs. Spark plugs changed twice over the 4 year period, NGK irdium being the last, and wires changed to Nology just this year.
Note even though all these were changed, I drive it like I stole it, running it hard all the time, as well as it has seen winter and been on many pizza delivery's.
General comments?
The 4rth generation Accord to my knowledge is the greatest running car, I have had no flaws (remember that I drive like a maniac and I am deeply impressed on how the Accord runs, never a doubt in my mind though seeing as how import cars seem to be doing a good job, especially Honda)
This car is very very quick, even at stock, until I decided to up the anty and upgraded the intake to cold air and did minor engine modifications. Honda is a good reliable car. It is also very good on gas. I think that if you maintain this car (which is very cheap) you can keep this car at over 300,000 KM (I should know, my friend has a Honda Accord 1992 Ex-R and he drives like I do if not worse and his KM's are 380,000 and when I drove it, it felt like a new car)
