1992 Honda Accord LX Wagon review from North America
"Over Hyped Money pit"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Power windows gets stuck, will not go down or goes down slow. Cheap/weak window trim plastic.
Wind whistle and rain getting into driver side door. Again cheap plastic.
Paint clear coat peeling off.
Replaced ignition module (Old one left me stranded).
CV boots replaced (discovered ripped and leaking grease)
Door handles on front passenger and driver side cracked (cheap Honda plastic)
Power antenna broken (bad design where it goes up and down every time you used the radio even if playing cassette. Should have put a manual switch or leave off when cassette in use)
Rear section of exhaust replaced at least 4 times. Midsection replaced twice. The front A pipe replaced once. So the whole exhaust (minus the cat) was replaced all due to corrosion problems. Maybe it is a badly designed or just too long and can't handle front wheel drive stress, but I've never had that much problem with exhaust with any other car. Any non-stainless steel system seems to rust out (even the factory originals) with this car and it is not even more than 10yr old yet. My 22yr Toyota Corolla only had exhaust replaced once and the body was considered a rust bucket yet exhaust did last at least ten years before replacement and it was a daily driver so there is no excuse for the Honda.
Timing belt broke and replaced. Lucky that it didn't damage engine. I've read that it is interference and there is 50/50 chance of engine damage. This is one time I got lucky with this car.
Rear hatch shocks replaced. Just under designed. That hatch is just too heavy for the hatch shocks used.
Brakes squeals like a pig even with new pads and lots of anti-squeal compounds.
Automatic transmission computer needed replacing. The dead computer left lower gears inoperable.
Automatic shift cable replaced. Old one made the shifter hard to engage.
Radiator cracked. Cheap plastic junk.
Coolant sensor intermittent. Read cold even after driving for two hours.
Oil leaks at pan and valve cover.
Rust around rear wheel wells.
Alignment no good. Wanders to right.
General comments?
What can I say about Honda quality at 100k? It sucks and over hyped by media. I'll never get a Honda again. I don't understand this Honda reputation thing going around. All these raves about reliability and performance is just advertising propaganda. These cars are no better if not worse than other cars I've owned and I bought this brand new.
