Power windows gets stuck, will not go down or goes down slow. Cheap/weak window trim plastic.
Wind whistle and rain getting into driver side door. Again cheap plastic.
Paint clear coat peeling off.
Replaced ignition module (Old one left me stranded).
CV boots replaced (discovered ripped and leaking grease)
Door handles on front passenger and driver side cracked (cheap Honda plastic)
Power antenna broken (bad design where it goes up and down every time you used the radio even if playing cassette. Should have put a manual switch or leave off when cassette in use)
Rear section of exhaust replaced at least 4 times. Midsection replaced twice. The front A pipe replaced once. So the whole exhaust (minus the cat) was replaced all due to corrosion problems. Maybe it is a badly designed or just too long and can't handle front wheel drive stress, but I've never had that much problem with exhaust with any other car. Any non-stainless steel system seems to rust out (even the factory originals) with this car and it is not even more than 10yr old yet. My 22yr Toyota Corolla only had exhaust replaced once and the body was considered a rust bucket yet exhaust did last at least ten years before replacement and it was a daily driver so there is no excuse for the Honda.
Timing belt broke and replaced. Lucky that it didn't damage engine. I've read that it is interference and there is 50/50 chance of engine damage. This is one time I got lucky with this car.
Rear hatch shocks replaced. Just under designed. That hatch is just too heavy for the hatch shocks used.
Brakes squeals like a pig even with new pads and lots of anti-squeal compounds.
Automatic transmission computer needed replacing. The dead computer left lower gears inoperable.
Automatic shift cable replaced. Old one made the shifter hard to engage.
Radiator cracked. Cheap plastic junk.
Coolant sensor intermittent. Read cold even after driving for two hours.
Oil leaks at pan and valve cover.
Rust around rear wheel wells.
Alignment no good. Wanders to right.
What can I say about Honda quality at 100k? It sucks and over hyped by media. I'll never get a Honda again. I don't understand this Honda reputation thing going around. All these raves about reliability and performance is just advertising propaganda. These cars are no better if not worse than other cars I've owned and I bought this brand new.
Obviously you do not know how to maintain any of your cars since you have run them all into the ground. I have a 1993 Honda accord ex 4 door with 230000 miles. and it still runs like a champ. Sorry to hear how you killed yours, it was a good reliable car.
Good car if taken care of and maintained properly, but I would agree that if one car has the edge in reliability aspects it would be a Toyota. My '92 Accord EX Wagon needed help when I got it at 100,000 miles. Over the next 35,000 miles I replaced the spark igniter, master cylinder, water pump, heater core, air cond. compressor, and one small rust spot on rear wheel well. A lot of work, but I have a car I love to drive, has 160,000 miles, runs great, and is very reliable now. (I must admit that my '90 Toyota with 217,000 is still going strong with less investment)
I am not happy with my 96 Honda Accord EX wagon. The car is all right, but I expected better. I had better luck with my two Toyota Celicas. Seemingly small, but expensive and inconvenient problems:
-AC condensation system periodically flood feet and front floor
-hood latch needs new cable ($132) to keep hood from flying up while driving, been to dealer twice and not fixed.
-am fighting with Daytona Beach Honda dealer now about cigarette lighter. They charged me $37.50 to put a new fuse in even though I told them that wasn't the problem. It still doesn't work. Can't plug in cell phone or cd player.
-ABS brakes quit working at 50,000m and costs $1400 to fix. Heard this is a problem with many Accords.
- 4 cylinder engine underpowered: scary when trying to get on interstate Is that enough?
Me too, the power windows no longer works because the cheap rubber trim is pinching on both passenger and driver side. The mechanic put some sort of "oil" to make it go down, but it wears off after a while. Is it routine maintenance to "oil" down the windows? I never had to do this with any other vehicles. I sympathize with the owner's problems. I had similiar problems and no I did not "kill" my car. I am thinking about ditching this heap soon.
I have a 92 Accord with 160,000 miles that was running fine until last year. It started leaking oil from the center of the engine. Since they had to take apart the engine to fix the leak, they replaced all the belts, cables, hoses, and spark plugs. This set me back $1200. But I still got problems: The transmission computer is dead now (I have to manually shift the gears until I get it replaced). The radiator has a crack along the top. The paint has a lot of oxidation. I figure I fork in another $1000 will give this car another 100,000 miles of life.
Boy, it's true. Hondas are definetely cheapo pieces of junk. They're pretty ugly too, in my opinion. Everybody says that these cars are good, but they must be paid to say that or something because they are really no good. My friend has a Honda with no dorhandles, no air vent levers, no nothin 'cause of the awful cheap plastic! And my uncle has a '88 ford with 400,000 miles on it and everything still intact. Never buy a Honda. They will cheat you out of your money.
Sorry to hear about all the bad luck you guys have been having. My family has owned two civics, one prelude, and three accords. We never had problems with any of those. Hopefully I will not have any problems with the 92 lx wagon I just bought last week. I have all the paper work and maintenace listings from the original owner. It has 112,000 miles. My brother just got rid of a 91 Si with 250,000 miles and never had a single problem with it. I read someone having problems with the rust behind the wheel wells. And after doing a little reading I found out the rust is caused by the rubber trim inside the wheel. I guess the trim has a tendency of trapping the water.
I have a 1992 Honda Accord EX, the back right window is of the track, before when it went down and up it took forever, along with another window, but it was fixed. The driver door handle on the inside is busted, the air-conditioning knobs keep breaking, the powered antenna is busted for like the 3rd or 4th time. The car pulls to the right. But what I hate the most is that the radio broke twice, and the cigarete lighter never worked. I believe it is the fuse behind the lighter, but I have no idea how to get back their. LOL.
I've got a 1992 Honda Accord LX 4 door sedan with 190k miles on it, and the only problem I've ever had with it is a faulty heater core which only cost $100 to replace. $100 maintenance for a 12 year old and nearly 200k mile car? I wouldn't call that an over-hyped money pit.
I have a 92 Honda Accord ex, and I have been have problems with it. It will start when it wants and shut off when it wants. I replaced the main relay and it is still giving me a hassle. Can someone please help me with this?
Accords problematic! My 1991 Accord LX is now at 259k Miles. I have replace a Starter, Alternator, Fuel Pump, Fuel Pump Relay, Valve Gasket, and Belts, Brakes, Tires and Oil. This car is reliabilty in the extreme. You must have really beat on that car.
If you base your comments about an entire car company on one car that you owned, you are simple-minded. Sure, anyone can get a bad car, even a Honda. But when you've had bad luck with one car or even several cars, then come on here talking about how Hondas are overrated pieces of junk, you just look silly.
If you had bad luck with it, then don't buy one. But every, and I mean EVERY, reputable publication that knows anything about car quality and reliability has Honda right at or almost at the top. I look at the preponderance of the evidence, and the statistics overwhelmingly show that Honda is at or close to the top of the list in quality and reliability. Perfect? No. As good or better than anyone else? You bet.
My '92 Accord had problems, or my Aunt Betty's neighbor's step-son's girlfriend's '91 Civic had transmission problems, so Honda makes junk. Get real. (rolls eyes)
I have a '92 Coupe EX 5-speed (170,000 miles) and the only thing I've ever had to do was to get a new clutch; to me though, that is just regular maintenance. The engine is still putting down 135 hp (which isn't far from a brand new engine putting 140). All in all, one of the best cars I've ever driven. As long as you keep up with regular maintenance, you shouldn't have many problems.
On a side note, there are several known problems with honda auto trannys, especially ones that get driven roughly. However, my 5sp runs nearly perfect, as well as my engine, and I run my car a lot harder than most. (I usually push 5200-5500 rpm before upshifting.)
I'm sorry that the Accord you happened to get was not quite as strong, but I am almost willing to guarantee there was some user error involved in your car's poor performance.
