1998 Honda Accord EX-V6 Coupe review from North America
"Inexpensive, luxurious, powerful, fun, exceptional automobile that can be compared to German autos"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel cap wasn't put on at one point by the previous owner. A replacement was found, but a check systems light illuminates on the console. I need to have a dealer reset it. No problem.
Passenger-side power door lock motor blew.
Gas meter reads empty with 3 gallons left.
Brake rotor warping occurs frequently with Accord V6s.
General comments?
200 horsepower and rev-happy vtec system launch this car to 60 in about 7 seconds with little wheelspin. Flooring it brings the tac to 5500. Feels a lot faster however.
Car is loud during highway driving in the rain due to aluminum underbody and relatively cheap Michelins.
Drives as nice as my fathers Jaguar XJ8 (1998), in his words.
Seats are unfortunately uncomfortable after about an hour's worth of driving.
CD Player in EX models could be better.
Expensive looking interior with fake wood trim and vinyl/leather mix.
Exceptional styling over other mid-level luxury sport coupes.
Trunk is deceivingly huge.
Modifications are easy to buy and install.
Fair gas mileage. I think it's better, but because my gas resevoir meter is incorrect, I believe it's 18 city, 27 highway.
Controls easy to operate.
Sunroof, moonroof combination.
Dual exhaust 'makes' the rear look of the car.
No manual transmission.
Auto is iffy. It has trouble making decisions by itself. Especially downshifting.
With a 5 speed trans, 20 more horsepower, and better tires, this would be a serious contender for sleeper sport-luxury car of the year, back in 1998.
