1995 Honda Accord LX review from North America
"Overall, very disappointing"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have had a multitude of things go wrong or wear out unexpectedly on this car. My previous car was also a Honda and I foolishly traded it in with a paltry 14,000 miles on it (a 4cyl. 1992 Accord LX) just for the sake of getting something newer. Between 1966 and 1992 all my cars had been either Chevys or Pontiacs. Just after my warranty expired in 1998, my AC went out and cost me over $800 and two repair trips to fix. The ABS braking system failed within warranty. About 4 years ago I smacked a concrete light standard in my church parking lot from 3 feet away and a dead stop (parked)... couldn't see the standard for the dew build up on the car,... also dark. The impact on the right front fender bent the frame slightly, detonated the airbag, broke the windshield and caused,$2500 damage and I was without the car for over two weeks (dealer repair). My power door locks lock and unlock by themselves at odd times (even with me not in the car), the radio plays only sporadically and randomly, and the cassette player refuses to play if the radio won't, I have a Check engine light that's mostly on full-time and it defies resets and diagnosis, the power antenna will no longer retract, the center console cover started showing abnormal wear-through at about year 4, and during year 1 I learned the headliner is very fragile and rips and dents with minimal impact... like accidentally bumping it lightly with the edge of a 3 ring binder while trying to reach back and put the binder in the back seat from the driver's seat. The defroster is also of poor design and works rather poorly taking an inordinate amount of time to clear my windshield. Although the car is a bit racier looking than the models that followed it (save the 2 door Accord sport), it's mostly a bland, lackluster and unexciting creation that leaves you with a rather empty, unsatisfied feeling. Based on my experience with this particular car, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
General comments?
Good resale value.
Good brand reputation.
Easy to find competent repair facilities.
Transmission could be a lot smoother.
I hear lots of traffic and highway noise. Sound insulation needs serious improvement.
Hasn't left me stranded anywhere yet.
Hard to change out replacement headlight bulbs. Once it took 3 different mechanics at an Exxon station to remove the old one.
Factory wheels seriously overpriced.
