I have had a multitude of things go wrong or wear out unexpectedly on this car. My previous car was also a Honda and I foolishly traded it in with a paltry 14,000 miles on it (a 4cyl. 1992 Accord LX) just for the sake of getting something newer. Between 1966 and 1992 all my cars had been either Chevys or Pontiacs. Just after my warranty expired in 1998, my AC went out and cost me over $800 and two repair trips to fix. The ABS braking system failed within warranty. About 4 years ago I smacked a concrete light standard in my church parking lot from 3 feet away and a dead stop (parked)... couldn't see the standard for the dew build up on the car,... also dark. The impact on the right front fender bent the frame slightly, detonated the airbag, broke the windshield and caused,$2500 damage and I was without the car for over two weeks (dealer repair). My power door locks lock and unlock by themselves at odd times (even with me not in the car), the radio plays only sporadically and randomly, and the cassette player refuses to play if the radio won't, I have a Check engine light that's mostly on full-time and it defies resets and diagnosis, the power antenna will no longer retract, the center console cover started showing abnormal wear-through at about year 4, and during year 1 I learned the headliner is very fragile and rips and dents with minimal impact... like accidentally bumping it lightly with the edge of a 3 ring binder while trying to reach back and put the binder in the back seat from the driver's seat. The defroster is also of poor design and works rather poorly taking an inordinate amount of time to clear my windshield. Although the car is a bit racier looking than the models that followed it (save the 2 door Accord sport), it's mostly a bland, lackluster and unexciting creation that leaves you with a rather empty, unsatisfied feeling. Based on my experience with this particular car, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Good resale value.
Good brand reputation.
Easy to find competent repair facilities.
Transmission could be a lot smoother.
I hear lots of traffic and highway noise. Sound insulation needs serious improvement.
Hasn't left me stranded anywhere yet.
Hard to change out replacement headlight bulbs. Once it took 3 different mechanics at an Exxon station to remove the old one.
Factory wheels seriously overpriced.
This man obviously got a lemon. Look at the multitude of good reviews on these cars. Either that or he's a domestic salesman.
I believe he also got a lemon, my 94 accord has been nothing but a dream to me, and considering I'm a stupid 17 year old who does stupid stuff to his more than loving car its saying a lot.
Wow! My '95 Accord has 306K on it, and it hasn't had one tenth of your problems. Its only real problem area has been the brakes - it has needed a brake job about every 60K. Nothing else out of the expected went wrong before 230K. The windows are slow to get up, but eventually they do make it. Otherwise, it has been a great car. It even has the original exhaust system, and with the way salt is thrown on Ontario roads in the winter that's incredible.
Bad luck old chum, you either have a lemon or a badly treated car. These cars will go 200k to 300k easily if treated right.
Mine drives like new with almost 200k on it.
Apparently before trying to change your headlight bulb you did not refer to your owners manuel, which I did. It is so easy its amazing reading these comments. 1. Open the hood.
If you need to change the bulb on the passenger side, remove the radiator reserve tank. 2. Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by squeezing the connector to unlock the tab while you push down on the connector. 3. Remove the bulb by turning it 1/4 turn counterclockwise. 4. Insert the new bulb in to the hole and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise. 5. Push the electrical connector back on to the bulb. Make sure its on all the way. 6. Turn on the headlights to check the new bulb. 7 (Passenger side) Reinstall the radiator reserve tank.
My 1995 Accord is going on 142,000 miles. I have had to replace the air conditioner recently, but I live in S Calif & use it A LOT! The automatic window mechanism had to be replaced last yr, but I also use those a lot. I've replaced 2 radiators & a master cylinder. So in 12 yrs (single owner) those are the primary problems I've had. I've been very happy with my car & hope to keep driving it for sometime. It still looks pretty good too. I get it detailed once a year. Just wondering. What kind of mileage do others get from theirs?
I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX and I love it! It was my mother's from 2000 until last March when it became mine. My family has never had any problems until recently. It has almost 150,000 miles on it and about a week and a half ago it developed a miss in the lower RPMs. We have changed the fuel filter, plug wires, valve cover gasket (it had a leak), distributor cap, rotor, and one of the vacuum hoses within the past week. It still has the miss. Don't get me wrong... I still LOVE my car, but it sure would be nice to fix this problem... We are thinking that it might be the EGR Valve now. Fingers crossed!!! Any suggestions?
