"A very wise buy"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Master and slave clutch cylinder went out 500 miles after I purchased the car, replaced that parts and labor $250.

One cracked inside door release inset, exchanged from front passenger side to rear.

Antenna replaced with fixed rubber type.

General comments?

I had done all of the research and knew that the best cars to have were Japanese. My first car (big mistake) was a 72 Volkswagen Bus, which I had problems with from the start. Moving right along, I had always wanted a SVX and came across one at a local dealership in Burgundy, which I love. Great car, great power and handling, almost too good. Topping it out at 135 on a bypass route through Salem on I-5, barely feeling any type of shimmy at all. Unfortunately I became unemployed and couldn't afford the payments so I sold it on Ebay for four grand. Which brings me to my Accord.

Back to my research and knowing that Japan makes some good quality autos, I had my sights set on buying Honda or Toyota. My fiance has had a 88 Toyota Corolla SR5 for awhile now and has over 220k miles on it, so I know that the cars can last. I have a very particular taste in cars and wouldn't settle on anything other than the 4th generation Accords or a 90-91 Civic. Being from a fairly large city I had my choice of a variety of lots, from 82nd street Mexi/Russian lots, to the more upscale Westside dealerships. Having a budget around $5000 I knew that I would be able to get the car I wanted without losing an arm and a leg. Anyways, I eventually found the car I had been looking for, a rosewood 93 Accord DX. Without A/C and a few other luxury options I only slightly hesistated as I bought the car, knowing that I was entering the winter months and wouldn't need it for about 8 more. From the start I fell in love with this car. I don't mind the more sedan like appearence, for that I feel that keeping it on the downlow can potentially save a lot of future ticketing and attention from police. Being a DX it didn't come with cupholders, so I installed those from a LX or the same year. I am currently looking for the optional center armrest that also acts as a center console. This car runs like a charm if you fore go the repairs I had to make on the clutch cylinders, which I believe should be replaced around 120k miles anyway. Other than that, I feel that this car was a perfect choice for me and for where I am at in this point in my life.

Going from the SVX to the Accord I noticed a rather large decrease in HP (233 down to 120), and a slight downgrade in handling. Not to say the Accord needs more power, but it sure couldn't hurt. But I figure, who's in a hurry to get somewhere, and quite frankly I think my 'driving crazy' days are behind me. All I care about now is a good stereo (which I have), and a reliable source of transportation. I know that this car will last me another 100k miles, and I will probably buy another Accord in the future (I love the new styling on the 03). So once again I am 100% happy with my decision to buy my first Honda; plenty of interior and trunk room, reliable, safe, and the perfect car for my needs. I would without a doubt buy another Honda.

If you want more HP get a V6 Accord. I've had two. First was my '92 V6 sedan with Auto Trans, 110k miles. The engine ran great, Horsepower wasn't any better then my mom's Ford Taurus though (But much more reliable). I sold it because the auto trans started to shift kinda jerky-like. My current Accord is an '03 V6 sedan with auto trans. Top-of-the-line with leather, heated seats, moonroof, ect. The trans on the 03 is much better, when driving lightly you can't even feel it shift! And the 240 HP is nice. Like driving a sports car, but with the practicality of sedan. It leaves all my friends souped up 4-bangers in the dust. I highly recommend both these cars; Honda's are the best.

There was no such Accord in 1992. The 2.2 liter 4-cylinder was the only engine available until the 2.7liter 6-cylinder became available in 1995.
