1987 Honda Accord LX review from North America
"Great car, but inspect it well.."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Slight shake at idle. Became much worse in the few months I owned it.
Water pump failure.
Float valve O-ring failure.
Oil leaked from every seam of the motor.
General comments?
I bought an Accord because of their great reputation.
However, it developed a terrible vibration that no mechanic could diagnose. At stop lights, you could actually see the hood shaking! I had the motor mounts replaced, timing adjusted, carburetor calibrated - all to no avail.
I eventually sold it for quite a bit less than what I had paid for it.
Regardless, I still became quite attached to the car. It was nimble, great on gas, comfortable and rode very well for a car of it's size.
Though it was a money pit, I think it is best to blame the previous owner for it's ills. It just wasn't well taken care of.
