1999 Honda Accord EX V6 Sedan review from North America

"Fantastic car, excellent value"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I just bought it, so this review won't speak so much to reliability, as to driving impressions and general enjoyment.

I believe my lumbar adjustment switch doesn't work. I didn't know it was there until I sat down and read nearly the entire manual the other night (a real car geek).

General comments?

My 2000 Accord LX with 77K miles was totaled in a horrible accident, so I had to buy a car to replace it.

This car is just fabulous. Assuming the reliability matches that which I've experienced with every other Honda, then it will be the used car deal of a lifetime (for me at least).

The amenities on this car never end. It is truly an enthusiast's machine; definitely a "guy car."

Everyone knows this 3.0 200hp V6 is one of the best engines around. And if you're used to Hondas, you'll know that the transmission behaves a little more like a manual: you feel it when it's downshifting, or engaging the torque converter. This is a characteristic that people often love or hate. I like it, myself.

The leather interior and seat support are awesome. It feels great and looks great. The level of luxury truly rivals mom's new Benz. The quality of the materials and the assembly are first rate. I looked at many 3-5 year old Accords when I was shopping. Of course some had been treated better than others, but all of them were still solid. I never saw anything that appeared prematurely worn.

I thought I wouldn't like the automatic climate control, but I ended up loving it. It's very easy to override if you want direct control over heating and cooling.

The cruise control and audio controls on the steering wheel are also very cool. The stereo speakers probably aren't the best around, but I think it sounds fine, and I really like the CD player.

Hondas hold their value extremely well. My old one was worth more than I owed the bank. No gap insurance needed. So I got a small cash "bonus" when it was totaled. If you're trying to buy one, though, depreciation can be your friend when it comes to trim levels. A totally loaded EX V6 like mine is not that much more expensive than a base LX, when the car is 4 years old.

I would highly recommend this as a used car purchase. Go drive one, and you'll be impressed.

P.S. Be sure you get the 5-digit anti-theft code for the stereo from the previous owner! Otherwise you have to go to the dealer if your battery is ever disconnected.
