1991 Honda Accord LX Wagon review from North America

The day I found this Vehicle, the Speedometer was operating in an intermittent fashion. Through my own research I concluded that this was due to a faulty Speed Sensor. It was agreed before purchase that this would be rectified free of charge.

Three thousand miles later my wife decided to drive it through a severely flooded roadway. Unfortunately I was not in the Vehicle at the time so was unable to render any common sense.

The resulting damage was as follows,

Immediate, The Transmission went into Limp Home Mode. This meant that it was permanently engaged in third gear only.

I had to replace the Transmission Computer to rectify this.

This also Put Paid to the Fuel Pump.

I burnt out the Starter before I found this fact out.

Of course there has been the usual outlay on replacement Brake Pads, Tires, Distributor Cap, Rotor Arm And Drive belts.

I would add that the replacement of the Main Engine Belt is an expensive procedure as you must also replace the Water Pump at the scheduled 90K Belt replacement Interval. However it only cost me Three Hundred Dollars, Including Genuine Honda Parts, so I cannot complain.

I am currently having problems with the Starter. It is due to the fact that I am reluctant to purchase a genuine Honda Starter. Instead I have been installing the Rebuilt Starters from the usual Parts Stores. Big mistake, I have now done the Job three times in the last month. This is not the Vehicles fault, Just been unlucky I guess. The Flywheel is solid, no damaged teeth. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of these imported rebuilt Starters.

I do know how to install a Starter in case anyone is prepared to comment below, I am an ASE Certified Technician and have replaced lots of Starters on these Accords on a professional basis.

I am very impressed with this vehicle in spite of the minor annoyances listed above.

The car rides like a Lexus with no annoying suspension thumps at all.

For a now Thirteen year old Vehicle I am very impressed with the general build and quality of the Marque.

Switch the Transmission into Sport Mode and you will beat any other four cylinder non turbo beater car of the same era. Then again perhaps that is due to me keeping it in tune also.

This Vehicle is driven over one thousand miles a week and has yet to leave us stranded.

I will get this beyond 300k before I purchase another vehicle, at which point this vehicle will be donated to my favorite Charity, gaining me a nice Tax credit also.

All in all I am very happy to purchase a vehicle for less than three thousand dollars and know I have three years worth of Depreciation to be credited by the Tax man, the Vehicle is currently used for Business Purposes.

I also do not have the headache of a Car Payment each month, these vehicles are rock solid, the Engine still purrs even at this mileage.

I am going to upgrade to a Toyota next time around purely due to the fact that they are easier to work on.

Absolutely Bulletproof Engine and Transmission.

This is the one to choose if you do not wish to get onto first name terms with your mechanic,forget the big three and get yourself some real Transportation.
