1995 Honda Accord LS review from UK and Ireland
"The best older family saloon around"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Just a few minor electrical gremlins: the cruise control and front driver's side electric window don't work, and the rear right-hand brake light, despite having a new bulb, refuses to work.
I guess that's what happens when you build a Honda in the UK as the '93-'98 Accords and its sister car the Rover 600 were.
General comments?
Other than the electrics, an absolutely faultless car.
It drives superbly - well, like a new car, which is a testament to the durability of Hondas. Grip, traction and handling are superb, even in low-grip situations - though at times it likes to understeer and wallow.
The interior is roomy and comfortable, and much nicer than that any of its mid-sized rivals. The dashboard is well laid out and well built though someone at some time in its life has added some ghastly cheap plastic "wood" trim to it.
Performance is pretty good from the 131 bhp engine, which might not sound much, but it's quite a lot lighter than the latest crop of mid-sized saloons - its 0-60 time is 9.2 seconds, faster than most modern 2.0 saloons.
Specification for the LS model (I think it was mid-range at the time) is very good, with ABS, electric heated mirrors, electric windows all round, electric tilt/slide sunroof, cruise control, electric radio aerial, electrically height adjustable driver's seat, and 6 speakers - not bad for an almost 10-year old car.
The bodywork has survived almost 10 years of central Scottish life without any rust - I hope it, and the rest of the car survive another 10 years in the Highlands...
