2000 Honda Accord SE Executive review from UK and Ireland

"Almost perfection"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Light bulbs.

General comments?

I bought this car brand new in the Year 2000 and I am coming up to 4 years ownership hassle free (touch wood). Apart from servicing the car and changing the odd blown bulb

nothing has gone wrong.

The first two services were carried out by the local Honda dealer. Although they did a great job it was very expensive. I now get the service done from a Honda specialist and save 40% on the dealers.

The car is very comfortable and being an executive model comes with all the extras. Factory fitted alarm, Child locks, full leather interior, Electric seats, heated seats, electric windows, cruise control, Bose 6 speaker system-

tape player, 6Cd changer, full electronic climate control, AC and sunroof which is very rear these days.

The only thing that is missing is a navigation system.

The driving position is very good for a saloon car. All the switches are easy to reach and the driver has full control of the operation of electric windows throughout the car.

Although the cabin is typical Japanese, with the use of black plastic it looks very good.

The driving experience is good for a saloon car. The car sticks to the floor and there is very little body roll around corners. It is a very comfortable car, but it is not sports car and the performance is satisfactory. All hell breaks loose at 5500rpm as the vtec system kicks in and roars to the red line. This is an excellent saloon cruiser and if your are looking for performance I suggest you try the honda accord 2.2 type R.

As a 1.8 auto vtec model the car is pretty juicy on fuel. Average is 31mpg town/motorway driving. Although using the cruise control on the motorway at 60mph can return 400 miles to 54 liters of fuel. It is an excellent motorway cruiser, but around town being a bit heavy footed does really affect the petrol levels.

The car is fully colour coded and comes with sports wheels. The car looks great.

Overall this car is an excellent saloon car. The reliability is 100% and it is an excellent drive. I would strongly recommend the accord as an excellent buy. The only bit that lets it down is the petrol consumption, but this is a very minor point and a manual or a 2.0 would probably sort this problem out.

I can only see myself selling this car to fund the latest accord offering from Honda. Then I think whats the point its hassle free driving!!
