1993 Honda Accord EX review from North America
"A reliable grocery go-getter"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The power antenna is located poorly. I had the same problem with my 1988 Accord LXi. It stops going down fully after a while, and if you open the truck and aren't watching your antenna, you'll close the trunk and the antenna will get stuck in it; breaking it even more in the process. I don't remember how mine broke, but I've had past experiences with this problem.
The fuel filter is located in a poor location and it is very difficult to change.
The window regulator and motor are one in the same, meaning if one breaks down, you have to replace both, which costs around $300 from the dealer for each window. My front window regulator went out once, and that was a pain getting it replaced. I suggest going on eBay and buying one for a DIY job.
My driver's side front window was busted in one time, and after replacing it, the window comes off the tracks more often than it did. Taking the door off and window out is no problem, but working on the moving parts is a pain.
My A/C low high knob's bearings wore down, so I have to use pliers every time I want to change how much air is coming out. Minor problem due to wear and tear?
The front driver's side door handle cracked in half, so I have to use my thumb to pull the metal latch to open the door.
General comments?
Generally speaking, I feel that this Honda has served me very well. I'm not a big fan of its styling, but it gets me to point A to point B and back without any problems.
The car isn't quick by any means, and if you plan on adding performance modifications, I would suggest buying something else, because it's a waste of money, unless you plan on doing an engine swap of some kind.
The interior is mainly pretty sturdy, and it has held up pretty well, unlike most American made cars. It's not like BMW sturdy, but it doesn't have a plastic look.
Due to being a popular import, replacement parts are easier and less expensive to find, if willing.
With timely regular maintenance, this car will last and last and last, which I can't say the same for many other more expensive cars.
