Just a few expected repairs... New parts are very cheap, and replacing them was fairly simple with the help of repair manual and boyfriend!
Alternator.
Distributer (done myself!)
Breaks.
Head-gasket.
Fuel Pump.
Water Pump.
Heater Core.
The cost for replacement parts in total has been about $400. Not bad considering the car was free!
This has been an excellent car for a college girl. Cheap to maintain, great gas mileage (23/25 mpg) Not the hottest car in the parking lot, but its fun to drive (surprisingly quick!). 260000 miles on the engine/transmission, and still running like a champ. Also, the car is simple to work on, almost anyone who has some basic understanding of autos and a repair manual can fix the minor problems I have had.
So, are you saying that you had a head gasket job done for under $400???
I can see it being cheap, I replaced the engine in My 85, and including parts labor and new clutch, I got out for under $500, that includes the $200 that I payed a friend who owns a repair facility to help me. They (the 2nd gen Accords) are famous for being "user friendly", well as long as there are no vacuum problems. Personally I have had nightmares about black spaghetti. The intake and carb would come off with the head, mark Vacuum lines and remove. Then the head could, theoretically be resurfaced without removing them. I'm glad to see a chick who loves her accord as much as I love mine. contact me @ daibutsu_@yahoo.com and Ill send you some pics of my lil show accord.
