My 92 accord rode better with 172000 miles. The road noise is very annoying and I can't drown it out with the stereo because most of the time the cd's will not play.
The car does handle well and has plenty of power.
I have the same car (V-6 EX Auto) and previously owned a Camry so I can see where you are coming from. The Camry had 250K when we sold it and was the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned.
Your first brake jobs at 7K (and 14K) were due to faulty/deficient sets of brake pads. Mine went at 20K and were replaced. The newer set is expected to last longer (yours went for 87K) and as a bonus the brake dust on the wheels is no longer noticeable.
The radios/stereos in these cars are a problem area. It is common for a resistor to burn out causing the lights for ALL of you heater/radio controls to go out. Honda's fix is to replace the stereo unit ($600 US if not under warranty) Honda has been replacing for free even when past warranty on a case by case basis for certain individuals, others not so lucky. The Cd's not working is another stereo problem, but less common.
My fuel mileage is 20/30 mpg much the same as advertised.
The transmission recall was for an overheating bearing and with a lot of highway miles yours would have been very prone to that early failure. For me it was just a free trans fluid change.
Your post was very good for me in that your covered all of the problems that I knew about and yet you have over double the mileage that I have. This gives me hope that there will not be any more surprises in the near future (fingers crossed on the stereo).
And I still like the car, looks better than the Camry and drives way better. (but not the same quality, unfortunately)
