1988 Honda Accord EXI review from North America
"Dependable, economical transportation"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
These cars are so reliable that they often get neglected. Previous owner had run it for 375k, so was ready to let it go when he did. I'm on the East Coast of Canada, so the salt air got to her pretty good. She needed cancer treatment, and replacement of worn out suspension components, but still ran like a top all through the repairs.
Gaskets (valve cover and oil pan) hardenened up and needed replacing.
Outboard CV boots flew apart from age.
General comments?
I've never replaced anything that would not have been replaced from scheduled maintenance (if the previous onwer had maintained that). Aside from rust repairs, which I bought into for the cost of the car.
Despite it's vintage, I've seen 38mpg on skinny all seasons highway driving. Averages over 33mpg.
I would still consider buying another of this vintage from somewhere that is saltless.
