Has proven reliable, but that is to be expected with a car that is practically new.
Good looking car.
Good cornering.
Good Stereo.
BUT:.
Clunky Manual shifter.
Abrubt Clutch action.
Paint chips and scratches easily.
Blotchy paint.
Brakes are too touchy and feel spongy.
Seats show dirt and wear too easily.
Engine has started to sound like a lawn mower.
Power steering is overboosted and provides poor road feel and makes car feel darty especially at highway speeds.
Serious Lack of Torque.
Poor visibility.
Gimmicky dash with digital speedo gets annoying as does video game gas gauge and temperature gauge.
Suspension is too harsh and lacks sufficient travel when you hit a large bump it feels like it bottoms out.
Lack of headroom especially in the coupe with sunroof.
Not as good on gas as advertised.
Seat fabrics feel cheap.
My opinion is that Honda is overated and overpriced so shop the competition before you buy into the hype.
Just my two cents ;)
Have to wonder why so many of your complaints about the Civic are things that you would (should) have noticed on a test drive, yet you bought it anyway?
You might want to take the car in to have the valves adjusted. That should help with the "lawn mower effect".
As to gas mileage, that has a lot to do with the driver. Put in a K&N air filter and drive smoothly. I get consistent 32-33 in town and 37 on the highway if kept at 65-70 mph.
Honda's have never been known for torque so no surprise there. You have a ULEV engine, which is a good thing, and it's real world gas mileage gives the gas Civic high marks in most car mags.
Last tip, don't buy a new car with paint blotches. Mine looks like glass.
I saw a Civic that had been broad-sided by an early '90's Explorer. The Explorer had literally DRIVEN THROUGH the Civic. It had just crumpled like a tin can. All occupants were killed. The Explorer did not even have so much as a broken windshield. Honda's "crumple zones" tend to be a little too easy to "crumple".
To the best of my knowledge, no new car today can "have the valves adjusted." They all have hydraulic lash adjusters.
I bet if you took your Civic in for that service they'd charge you for it anyway though.
I'm not familiar with the newer Civic (we had one years ago and it soured us on Hondas forever) but the new Corolla and Scion both have very loud, rattly engines, so I suppose that sort of goes with the new imports.
I test drove a new Chevy Cobalt and it was so smooth and quiet you would forget it was running at stops. The Toyota engine was so harsh and noisy I thought it was a DIESEL!!
All Hondas are junk. I'm buying American only from now on because: much friendlier dealerships, better warranties, lower sticker prices, excellent fuel economy, and new US technology and reliability; much better than Japanese. Saionara Honda!
Honda had a nice run, in foreign makes VW or Subaru offer a lot more value. In domestics, I like the direction Ford is going.
"All Hondas are junk"?? Oh please give me a break! I don't happen to own a Honda, but I do have one of those 'foreign' Toyotas and it has close over a quarter of a million miles on it and it's still going. Face it, the Japanese know their stuff! Enough said.
Worst resale ever a 4 year old Honda... Carfax repairs sealed its fate.
