2005 Honda Civic LX review from North America
"Car OK, Dealership horrible"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front wheel bearings went bad.
Front right wheel/brake has been grinding for the last year when I press the brakes.
General comments?
Well, first I visited the dealership, just looking around before my lease was about to expire on my Jetta. The sales person was pushing me to buy my current Civic the same day, and she would waive my remaining 3 payments. I said OK, and when I went home and start reading the contract, I noticed that she added the payments on my Civic loan. After a lot of arguments over the phone she finally waived the 3 remaining months on my VW.
I loved my 05' Civic till a year ago when it started making a loud noise on the freeway. I took it in, and I was informed that the front wheel bearing was going bad so they had to replace it under the warranty. Since then I have to take it in every couple of weeks (total 6 times so far) because the noise keeps coming back (grinding when I press my brakes right before I complete stop). I heard every excuse from them from "the brakes were dirty and had to clean them and grease them" to "it's the way I drive" (not to mention that I drive like an old man, because I was planning to keep it for a long time, plus it's a manual transmission and all freeway driving which means that I barely use my brakes), and the list is keep going on.
I just came back from them again yesterday, and the noise is even worse now. I guess I will try the Victory dealership next. Hopefully they have a mechanic that knows his job there.
I would take it to a real independent mechanic, but I bought the extended warranty for 100.000 miles (good thing because it looks like I will need it). I'm pretty sure not all Honda's are like mine, and my car would be fine if they could fix it the first time. It's just sad that the reason I bought a Honda is because it's supposed to be reliable. I will say though that the staff are very friendly.
