1991 Honda Civic EX review from Mauritius
"I will keep it running strong, whatever it takes"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The alternator just said bye bye at 242000km. No big deal.
The fuel hoses were torn out after all those years; now changed and no more leaks.
Seats and driver door in very bad condition due to exposure to sunlight all day long. Will have them rebuilt soon.
The automatic transmission is knocking hard when shifting, and the oil smells like burned. Trying to find a new gearbox...
Oil is leaking through the spark plug oil seal, even though no smoke from the exhaust. Will replace them this week.
The relays for the back-lights are out of order. Feels like sand when you hold them in your hands. "Bad plastics" considering the fact that they are 18 years old now. Easy to replace.
General comments?
Very good acceleration for a small engine (1.2L auto) thanks to the carburetor. No hungry V-tec engine who likes a lot of rpm.
It sticks to the road like no other in this category, even with 13'' wheels.
The headlamps are not adjustable.
The seats are no more comfortable after all these years.
The aftermarket spare parts are available easily.
The water pump is really the weak part of the engine.
