2000 Honda Civic review from North America
"Junk"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car has been crap since I picked it up from the dealer in the fall of 2000. The service at Honda has been a struggle as well. At first the hood didn't line up with the fenders and the driver rear door was hanging off the body. They adjusted the door and hood (the first dealer said the hood couldn't be adjusted). The hood sort of lines up now, but it rattles intermittantly. Wind noise is terrible in this car. My mother also bought a 2000 Civic and she has the same wind noise. Strange that no reviews point this out. They've replaced window gaskets and it's no better. The window regulator needed replacement because it made a crunching noise. The technicians didn't line up the window crank properly when they re-installed it so it points in the wrong direction when the window's up. The speedo fluttered and stuck when the car was brand new. It took Honda months to bring one into stock, so by the time they replaced it, it was 16,000 km out. Now the car is de-valued because the odometer went back to zero. Whatever you do don't have them ever change a speedo, even if it doesn't work. The idle is intermittantly rough. I needed a two way valve and sensor replaced in the fuel system when the light came on in the dash. The dealer says this is from overfilling. I come from an auto service background, and I don't overfill my vehicle. When I picked up the car, another guy was there on his 3rd set! Hmmm... Now the car has 60Km on it and the rear main seal and oil pan gasket are blown and the thing leaks oil. The front brakes are down to 30% and all I do is highway driving. I get on the highway in the morning and hit the brakes maybe 3 times before I get off. I believe the brakes wear just by friction against the rotors as you drive this car. I don't drive this car hard. The Honda dealers don't want to honour the "nation wide" warranty, it's always a battle for them to fix stuff under warranty when it's not from the dealer I bought it from.
General comments?
Terrrible assembly quality from the Alliston Ontario plant
Bad parts quality.
