I've got a 1.4 civic gl, totally mint perfect engine, full honda history and its only done 69k, its even been owned by an old chap all of its life and its sooooooo slow!!

I think my old rover 214 8v was faster and that only had 74bhp when its was new, as for a 120mph think ur speedo is v probably over reading, mine will probably do 105ish!

I do like the car, I think its great for what it is, but its is by no means a 'warm hatch' it's a little old car designed for taking little old men to shops and jolly little drives out to the local garden centre!

Well peeps I've got one of these Civic 1.4 GL dual carbed warm hatch's. And what I will say is I've raced a lot of cars and yes it's real good fun.

I've just got past a VTR, sat with a 2 litre Astra SRi and the list goes on.

But what I will say is, when my car gets to 90ish, I start to struggle. And I've had mine off the clock, but I was going downhill LOL... And it's got 150000 on the clock; great little car still though.

Now I've had a car that no one on here can pull apart from. It's french, and yes I know all the problems they have before you type them.

A 205gti MI 16v, and I beat Imprezas, Evos, VXRs, tuned VTSs, but a car with all that fun ended up being impounded, and that was the last I saw of it. What a waste of £3000.

Bye for now, Tony.

I've owned a 1.4 dual carb and driven several others. All the ones I’ve driven have differed somewhat in the performance stakes. The simple reason is tired/worn engines and out of sync/incorrectly set carbs.

If the carbs are out of sync then cylinders 1 & 2 will be fed a different air/fuel mix than cylinders 3 & 4 and chances are neither one will be the correct ratio anyway.

Somebody said they bought a low mileage car from an elderly person. This can be bad news if the car is to be driven hard. Sometimes the engine doesn’t perform well, has never been properly broken in, and won't take a lot of stress.

Reading comments on vxr, s beating up every hot hatch on the road... RUBBISH!!! I raced one last night in my old man's 1.8 bluebird... left the scrubber in my dust!!! Errrmmmmm, then I woke up! Seriously, i owned a 1.4gl--34000mls one lady owner when I bought it--kept it 3 years. Although it was quick off the lights and handled like a go-kart, it wasn't just as fast as the mk3 xr3i I had before it. Nor did it have the desireable "BAD BOY IMAGE" of the xr! But, i did enjoy it even though I don't remember beating up any gti's e.t.c. In fact, a manta gte blew it away no problem!{8 years ago}Grrrr. Also, being a honda, not one single thing went wrong with the wee car during the three years I owned it.{just the usual, pads, w/blades, bulbs} Cheers--guys/gals and love your ride.

I own a 91 Civic GL, they motor on for a 1.4, but I wouldn't say they're quick. I am in the process of trying to simply get 100bhp. Any tips, apart from the obvious?
