A/C has been recharged 2 summers in a row, waiting on number 3. A leak that can't be found!
Steering has been really loose about the last 5000 miles.
Notice the same problem as another user, after going through a puddle there is a noise from the right side near the engine. Feels like a brake problem, but doesn't fit the mold. I think it might be a problem with the Front Wheel Drive.
Fit and Finish is fair to poor.
Overall, I like this car. Good mileage, not bad on room, etc. But, compared to the 1988 Accord I drove before... that's a different question.
The 88 Accord still drove well after 100,000 miles. Heck, even the A/C still worked! The interior was starting to show it's age in 2001, the transmission needed to be replaced, but it was worth it for this car.
The 2001 Civic is not typical of Honda. Hopefully the 2004 Accords are not as bad. If they are, I'm looking for a new car brand.
LOOSE STEERING WHEEL NUT.
I have a UK built Honda, which had 'loose' steering, which I mentioned when it was having its regular service, at a Honda main dealer garage. It was not fixed, but there was a comment to have a 4 wheel alignment check, which I did, with no defect being found. The problem continued, getting so bad that it was becoming very difficult to steer. I eventually returned to the garage, who advised me that the nut on the steering wheel had actually come loose!
The garage were anxious to advise that this check was not in any service schedule, exempting them from liability, even though I had pointed out that the steering was not right at its last service. They suggested that I had done something to the car, despite having it regularly serviced with them from new. Honda advised them that they had never heard of the problem before, but I am sceptical about the information the car manufacturers release to the public and their dealers regarding faults.
The loose steering wheel had damaged the steering column. The cost of the repair was appox.£900.00, but Honda paid, as a gesture of goodwill, even though the car was outside its warranty period.
