2001 Honda Civic SE review from UK and Ireland
"A good reliable car, quick, looks sporty, better than the rival makes"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fitted 4 new tyres on the car at 10000 miles owing to the car having 1 odd sized tyre on the front passenger side. This caused excessive wear to the other three tyres and new ones were needed. Dealer accepted responsibilty as it was a demonstrator before had and the odd size tyre was not picked up in their 50 point check before selling the car, yet the spare tyre was the correct size.
At 15000 miles front drivers side suspension started knocking, sounding very quiet at first, but over time progressively worse. Took to the dealer, who had a look at it said it was safe to drive, but needed new front struts. (I was aware that some other 2001 civics have had this problem from reading other articles on this site.)
Honda replaced the struts, two days later problem returned, car is being picked up tomorrow to be looked at again. I have read that other civics have needed whole new front ends from newer models i. e the 2003 model. This appears to be a problem just with 2001 models.
Found that the actual turning circle on the car is quite poor if you like doing 3 point turns in three moves then it will take you at least four in this car due to a very poor lock.
General comments?
I do actually like my civic, quick car, looks great, handles really well on country roads and has bags of power under the hood.
Its well worth going for the better trim package, also leather interior is also better as normal interior tends to wear a bit quickly on doors and if caught by kids or dogs scratches very easily and they cannot be removed.
There are no plastic protectors on the side panels so you are guarunteed to receive a few dings on the doors from other drivers in car parks.
If you require any other accessories for a honda eg more keyless entry fobs, alloys etc, then take a look on that famous auction site, alloys, keyless entry fobs are readily available, they all come from honda in the states or Japan, a new key fob cost me a £10 with delivery - Uk Honda nerly £100.
If your thinking about buying one of these get a 2003 facelift model, they look much better and all the not so good bits I have described have been dealt with.
