Having owned R5GTT, 205 1.9GTi, Golf GTi and Clio Williams I am a big fan of hot hatches.
Had the Type-R about a year now and love it to bits, a different and higher speed fun to that I had in the Clio Williams and the 80's hot hatches I have owned, due to it being bigger and slightly less chuckable. Equally good in a different, more mature way.
Hitting the VTEC zone still makes me smile, as does showing a clean set of heels to most other cars.
Engine, Brakes, Gearchange and looks are all perfect!
Changed the noisy and frankly hopeless Bridgestone tyres to Federal SS595's and the difference in noise, handling and comfort was a revelation (especially as they are only £50.00 each)
Overall the Civic Type-R is fantastic, it handles and goes brilliantly, has probably the best engine and gearbox on the planet. The looks are not too in your face, but it still attracts admiration from people who know what it can do.
It is practical due to the size.
It can be a wild child or a pussy cat (depending on the side of the VTEC zone that you decide to live.)
It is reliable given the amount of abuse I throw at it.
Only two niggles are that the seats 'forget' the setting when you shift them forward to access the rear and the fuel economy is by no means great (25mpg average on a mixed road type run).
Otherwise I love my Type-R and will be ordering one of the facelifted ones as soon as the cash is available.
Is the Honda civic type R what we call the Acura Integra type -R in North America?
If so, it's an awesome car!!
To the first commenter: The Integra Type-R and Civic Type R are two separate models. The Civic Type-R looks just like the standard Civic, but with a bodykit, big alloys and a screaming 8,000 RPM 2 litre engine with VTEC valve timing and 200 brake horsepower. Good for 0-60 in under 7 seconds.
The US doesn't get this Type-R version for some reason, although the Acura Integra Type R you mention is sold in limited numbers here in the UK as the Honda Integra Type-R. Hope this helps.
Poor low down torque, power don't kick in until 4k rpm, have to drive hard and use all of gears just to get it to go its quickest. engine sounds good though thanks to v-tec. poor acceleration above 100mph, have to change down a gear to overtake. annoying and frustrating. looks like a shopping trolley. struggles to cruise at over 100mph.

U have to drop a gear to overtake? What a stupid comment, find me a car that you don't have to drop a gear to safely overtake, you need to maximise your speed. Why are there so many stupid people around who think you can have ferrari performance for £14,000? For the money and type of people this car is aimed at it is flawless.
2 litre? I thought this car came with a 1.6L B16B motor.
The last generation civic type r is 2.0L 197bhp.

I have a Civic Type R ep3. It has the best engine, gearbox and brakes I have ever tried.
MPG is rather good for what it is. I'm getting 275 miles to £45 (full tank). Even got 330 when I drove to London and back.
Yes it is a bit short on torque, but so what, you can't have everything. I would rather drop down a gear to overtake just to hear the sound off that vtec with its aem induction kit and manifold back magnex exhaust.
Mine is 211 bhp, dyno proved. 0-60 standard 6.5, I have had mine timed at 6.2. Excellent car.
