1997 Honda Civic HX review from North America
"A fun-to-drive, money-saving, all around amazing vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong in this car yet. Although, sometimes leaves, etc., will come through the vents. I'm sure this is not a common problem, I will figure this out soon enough. Also, the rear speakers do not produce sound, but again, this is obviously something that went wrong that has nothing to do with the car.
General comments?
The car's engine is super-gas efficient, comprable to today's hybrid engines. I get an obvserved 40mpg when I drive efficiently.
When you drop a gear and step on it over 2500 or 3000rpms, the VTEC system kicks in and literally makes the engine go from 12 valves to 16 valves making a significant increase in power.
The interior is comfortable and cozy. Everything is layed out great, except I need to reach for the seatbelt quite a bit.
The HX model comes with stock alloy 14 inch wheels that are attractive and give you a great sense of quality. It is quite gratifying to drive past EX civics that are driving on steel tires with plastic covers.
The 5-speed transmission catches gears with little effort.
