1992 Honda Civic VX review from North America

I had the muffler and exhaust system replaced in 2002; the only time it ever "broke" on me. That was the only work I put into the car, other than maintenance and fixing a dent I put in it a week (to the hour) after purchase- my fault and the result of a new driver.

The civic was my first car, I had it from the summer of '99 before my senior year of high school, until halfway through my first year of grad school (end of 2004/beginning of 2005).

For the five years I had it, the car travelled regularly from NJ to VA, and then from southern NJ to upstate NY, and then between southern NJ, upstate NY, and Pittsburgh, PA - as well as many, many trips throughout NJ itself and to other states. It held up through all the long trips my post-college phish-tour obsession inflicted on it, and only began to fail when I took it to live among the steep hilly roads of Pittsburgh for grad. school. Finally, the oxygen sensor went bad on me - the car kept running fine, but the engine light was on, and it was a bit more sluggish than usual; I took it to a mechanic and in the end had to give it up in favor of something that could handle the highways and hills better than my cute little stick shift hatchback (got a '98 Accord) but the dealer we traded it in to was going to fix it up to sell again, and it had good prospects of running around town in NJ for years to come.

I was nervous when I first got it because it was noisy, light, and pretty bare-bones (the VX is sort of an odd model) but this car rewarded me by being a loyal friend for many years. I actually still miss the thing, because I never had to worry about it getting me where I needed to go!
