Car started to drink diesel at around 29000 miles. took back to main dealer, as car was under warranty, to find out that there is a common problem with the first years worth of diesel cars. any Honda with an 02 to 03 plate is likely to suffer from the turbo over-boosting and the engine shutting down. dealer was most helpful, and ordered new turbo there and then. two day later took car back to have work done, they also replaced the expansion tank for the cooling system, as there was a recall on these (again 02 to 03 plate), because they were prone to 'popping'.
Also noticed front left hand tyre always wears out faster than right hand one, had car on 4 wheel laser tracking system, and all wheels are aligned perfectly. maybe its something to do with the torque steer under power?
Car overall is reasonably well built. everything has its place on the dash, with nothing far from easy reach. the dash mounted gearstick is easy to use, although a bit notchy on the diesel.
As most car reviews have said, the fuel consumption figures of 56.5 mpg are a bit optimistic. realistically a combined figure would be better placed around 46 mpg.
Apart from that... it's a typical Honda, just turn the key and go.
Our 1.6SE averages around 38 to 40MPG (same as my previous N reg Seat Ibiza 1.4).
It sounds like having the diesal version is not a great money saver.
