Not one single thing. The engine feels like its finally wearing in.
This car is great! My requirement for a new car were a sexy reliable coupe with good fuel economy. The dealership treated me really well and she was really patient with me. I did 6 months of research to make sure when I bought a new car it was going to last and meet all my requirements. This web sight helped me to choose the car with the best consumer review. Thank-you everyone!
At first I wanted the Chevy cobalt, but I am so very glad I didn't get it. I wanted it because I wanted a fun sporty car. I thought the civic was boring and a car my mom would drive. WOW was I wrong! This car is so sexy and sporty and original! Not only did I get the look in a car I wanted, but I got a car I know will be reliable! When I went to the chevy dealers they wanted to pressure me into a lease and had all these "offers" to sweeten the deal to make the car cheaper. Honda was strait up with me and although they didn't budge on the price I was assured the mark-up was lower or comparable to the chevy. I test drove both cars 2 different times. When I let the clutch out in the chevy it snagged and chugged and felt choppy, the Honda was smooth and was hard to stall this is (I was told) because Honda has a built if fuel injector that gives the car more gas to prevent stalling (this is what Honda told me).
Amazing fuel economy! I drove from the BC Border through the mountains into Alberta for 4 hours and only used 1/2 a tank. It only costs me 38$ to fill it from empty! YAY!! I love this car, the interior feels luxurious and looks sexy.
I was on the fence when I saw the heads up speedometer. I didn't like the digital aspect, but now I love it. It doesn't get any simpler. I was looking at the jetta and put a picture of the civic steering wheel next to the jetta steering wheel and for 5000$ cheaper the interior was way nicer and more modern and well suited to me.
You will know when you find the right car. Honda was the right one for me. :)
Then eventually the new wears off and you realize you're driving the equivalent of an outhouse on wheels. I know this because I own an 06 lx coupe though I could never in my right mind call it anywhere even close to sporty (140 hp 4 banger tuned for fuel economy) it was a good looking car with a seemingly nice interior until it fell apart. Very poor build quality on the interior and the car has been in twice for repair once for valve problems and more recently for the transmission eating second gear.
Find a better car in the same price range as your LX. You get what you pay for and in this case, the Civic LX is the best bang for the buck...
"Find a better car in the same price range as your LX."
What car in the same price range isn't better? Something seems to fall off the damn thing's interior every week, the transmission has already been replaced, not to mention the valve chatters I've been plagued with. I can only hope that something major goes wrong again so I can lemon law this outhouse.
Having had experience with the Civic (very BAD experience) this review comes as no surprise. ALL Japanese manufacturers are now suffering a dramatic drop-off in quality, and have dropped FAR BELOW domestics in reliability. In all honesty, the reviewer would have been better off with a GM compact. After going thru 2 Corollas, neither of which made it past 100,000 miles, my best friend wised up and bought a Pontiac Sunfire GT. It has been flawless.
How is having fires from unexplainable places and having poor material quality superior to the Civic?
I agree with the comments of Honda quality heading south. I've had 06 "loaners" for a full day a couple of times (and did I make use of them!) while my '03 (itself nowhere near the quality of my old '92 Civic by the way) was in for it's disgustingly overpriced service. I must admit that I loved the new drive-train (a nice blend of power and economy, lovely smooth auto tranny), handling, and interior layout (clever cup holders, storage spaces, controls etc.). However, these vehicles were already rattling/squeaking (each - one a EX, and the other a DX-G - had less that 15,000 Km) and showing significant deterioration in the interior panels/materials (i.e the rubber/foam window mouldings were pulling away from the plastic trim, among other things). As I sat looking at this thing (dash, door trim etc), I could only imagine how sloppy and uneven the interior panels, controls, and trim would become with time (kind of like my '03, started out nice and straight and in no time it became droopy and not so well put together). I of course, can't say much of the mechanical quality, but if the interior is any indication, I would think long and hard about buying one of these. It is my experience that very few things "settle" over time as a dealership would claim. If it rattles or pops now, it likely isn't going to get any better (at least, not without major surgery). Period.
"And now we are basing quality on how much the engine can handle? Try sitting in a Miata and then in a Solstice. They are lightyears apart in quality. The Solstice looks like it was assembled in a third world country by children, using scraps of plastic leftover from better cars. The Mazda is better, period."
I have sat in both and driven them. The mazda has a nicer interior, but the soltice has a nicer exterior. The mazda was built to be fun to drive, but the soltice was the better performer as evidenced by it's racing success. Overall the mazda made the better roadster and the soltice made the better performance car.
"18:15 is yet another poster who believes that if you don't 1000% support all domestic cars you 100% support all imports regardless of model.
Which real world experience are you talking about? I think 10,000+ real world owners writing into Consumer Reports is a lot more conclusive than your Aunt Mabel's 1990 Chevy Lumina that gets 400 mpg and never has needed an oil change."
Now you're putting words in my mouth and making yourself look ridiculous. And consumer reports isn't written by 10,000 car owners. Nor do I have an aunt Mabel nor would I ever drive something from 1990.
Get until 126,000 miles to have a brake job on your OMNI?
What kind of brake shoes do you use? Certainly not MOPAR.
OR, you drive your OMNI non-stop, not even stop for a red light?
I just purchased a new Civic EX, and I have to agree with you it is an awesome car. I have owned 5 other Honda's over the past 10 years and have never had one problem with them. They hold their value and if you treat them well, they will take care of you. My husband has owned Chevy's and a Dodge, and has had problems with them, not to mention the lack of customer service you get from the dealer once you sign on the bottom line... He finally gave in and with with a Honda, he loves it. I don't understand the hostility towards you... perhaps it is Civic envy?
I've had 3 cars so far, and all have been Honda's; my first two were Accords which I loved and I just bought the Civic a couple weeks ago. My second day driving it, I plugged my cell phone charger in and heard immediate static on the radio. Since then, there's been slight static in and out all the time on every station, whether the charger is in or not. I took it to the dealer, then checked it out over several days, and said there's nothing they can do to fix the problem. They said they've heard this complaint before and Honda thinks there isn't enough complaints to make it a recall yet. I'm very disappointed with this "feature" and am wondering if others have experienced the static also?
I just bought a 2007 Civic EX coupe with a 5-speed, and I too love this car. While I'm sure there's some merit to the complaints of the actual Civic owners posting their comments, they only represent a handful of the thousands of people who buy new and used Hondas every year. No manufacturer produces nothing but 100 percent awesome cars, especially not at the rate Honda has to crank them out to keep up with demand for them. I could tell stories about my mom's Mustang, the PT Cruiser she had before that, etc. It happens.
But as for the rest of you with your speculations about cars you've never owned, or second- or third-hand stories about your sister's boyfriend's cousin's Honda, grow up.
All the poster of this review said was he or she loved the car. The last line said "this is the car for ME." Not "every other car ever made sucks and everyone should drive a Civic."
So the writer passed on a red-blooded American Chevy Cobalt and went with the enemy. So did I. I have owned four cars since I got my license eight years ago - three Hondas and an Oldsmobile. The three Hondas have spent a combined one day in the shop (spent O2 sensor on a '99 Civic). The Oldsmobile blew up three months after I bought it. Now what would you buy?
Okay, I've owned 2 Honda Accords in the past and loved them (an '89 LX and a '92LX). So... I just bought a 2007 Honda Civic LX and I have to say I'm happy with the gas mileage, but that's about it. I've already had to take it to the dealership 2 times, once for the car turning over without starting 3 times in my first week with it, and once again for a high-pitched "tire noise" at 55 MPH+. Unfortunately, the dealership could find nothing wrong with the starting problem (and it hasn't happened since?!) and said the tires had too much (about 10+ PSI) air, however, the tires still make noise after they put the correct amount of air in them! Now I have an appointment made again!!! because my driver side sun visor cracked apart at the hinge when I went to put it up a few days ago!! Now it's just pretty much flopping around in my face for another week until the dealership could get me an appointment. Needless to say, I'm not very happy with the first brand new car I've ever purchased 3 months ago. Maybe I've just been spoiled having V-6 engines and Accords until now, but I definitely would not reccomend to anyone to purchase one of these. The interior is definitely made very cheap and the car's air conditioning is very poor too. I have a black civic, maybe this is why, but I can't seem to cool off with the max air set on high when it's hot outside! Anyhow, my sister just bought a 2007 Accord last week fromthe same place. Hopefully she has more luck with her car!
Newsflash: Hondas are not sexy. Serviceable, economical, yes. But not sexy.
I own a 2007 Civic LX w/auto trans. First time Honda owner. I have 16,000 miles on it and enjoy every second that I'm driving it. No quality control issues. Very well laid-out interior ergonomics with plenty of storage spaces. For an economy car, the car handles beautifully and has plenty of power. My last fill-up (75% city, 25% highway) I got 31 mpg. Don't forget perfect IIHS crash test scores. One gripe - I hated the headrest. It angles too far forward, constantly bumping my head. I discovered that an '07 Accord headrest has a less severe angle to it and fits into the Civic seat. Perfect solution!
In short, I love my Civic. When I eventually pass this car down to my older daughter, I intend replacing it with another Civic.
