"I like the car for it fuel economy"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

We are having problems with the car accelerating

when we put the brakes on.

When we come to a light it accelerates or when parking it accelerates. We throw it into park and the car revs up then slows back to normal. We have the car for 4 months and this has happened 4 times. We have taken the car to the dealer. They checked it out and said the floor mat may have caused it. They cut the mat and the problem has happened again. We do not think the mat is the problem.

Has anyone had a similar problem with these type of cars since the dealer doesn't seem to know what to do about it. We are afraid to drive the car. Who will pay for damages if we are not able to keep it from running into something when it is revs up.

Very disappointed. Bought the car because of its supposed reliability, but has not been proven true to us.

General comments?

Generally good car, but notice wind and road noise more them I am used to.

"but notice wind and road noise more them I am used to."

Honda is infamous for having incredibly noisy cars hard riding cars.

While I haven't had your same problem with my civic I have had problems with loose rear shock towers and bad valves and Honda just doesn't care. They always have an "It's a Honda so theres no way anything can be wrong with it" kind of attitude. And so I soldier on with my rattling suspension and lumpy idle waiting for the rear end to drop. This isn't what I expected from a Honda and unless things get much better real soon it will be my last.

I think there must just be a recall... I found something that might help you fix your problem and not sit around here complaining like the guy above who does not actually own a Civic.

Make : HONDA Model : CIVIC Year : 2006

Manufacturer : HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 05V509000 Recall Date : NOV 02, 2005

Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 25298.

It said something about it getting stuck if it comes loose? Better get it checked out.

- Happy motoring

Thank you for your comment. That was the type of info I was looking for. I will pass this information along to my dealer. I appreciate your help, I hope to get as many miles as you have from my Civic. Thank you again.

13:07; Honda cars are not noisy or hard riding. They are just much more in touch with the road, which creates some of that famous "Honda" feel that so many people love. And I like to hear the engine buzz when I shift into 3rd at 5000 rpm's.

These are cars for people who LIKE to drive, getting there is half the fun. If you hate driving, buy a spongy riding Buick. That's like sitting on a couch and being pushed down the road; no feel for the road, dead steering, dull handling, and absolutely no fun to drive. That's why so many old people drive them; they're soft, low effort boats, which I guess is what some people want.

I like to actually DRIVE a responsive vehicle with sharp handling, not just float down the road on a rolling mattress.

I do own a civic actually and I just so happen to hate it. This has been my personal experience and if I want to complain about it I will. FLAME ON!

Go on and complain all you want, but don't make ridiculous statements about how domestic cars are perpetual motion machines and never break down.

Unless you broke your door panels and the other things you stated I do not think the Civic would have made it out of the factory. They check these things you know? Flame on your doors!

Yeah so do I, but it has to be a sports car not a piddling 140 hp econobox. As for a Honda, I don't want an economy car that goes down the road in a such a rattly rumbly fashion that my back starts to hurt after 45 minutes (if it were a 911 or a vette I could deal), because even with a suspension tuned that stiff, a Honda Civic will never even be anything close to sporty, not even the si. 140-200 hp just doesn't cut it anymore, unless the car weighs less than 2200 pounds (Lotus Elise), and there is no reason to make an econobox with a bad power to weight ratio try to be sporty.

Did I even mention anything about domestics? Well I will now. As of this time I would take a domestic over a Honda due to my bad experience with my civic. To me Honda is no longer the great reliable company I wished and thought it was. The car had some problems and I got treated like dirt by the dealer and Honda's US office. Can I make it any clearer for you or are you just going to keep acting like nothing can go wrong with a Honda?

A horse-drawn lumber wagon being pulled over a railroad track has a similar feeling of being in touch with the road. I'd take the Buick.

18:39 Nobody said that the Fit was a sports car. Common sense will tell you that a Porsche 911 is faster, what's your point? Read any review that ANYONE has written after driving the Fit and you'll see that they all say how fun it is to drive. Nobody said it was fast. But on a curvy back road somewhere, it's steering and handling make it a blast to drive. A lot of magazines say it handles LIKE a sports car, and it does. It's by far the best car on the market in the compact category. And to the guy who would rather ride in the horse-drawn wood cart, it kind of sounds like that's where you belong. Buy the Buick.

My aunt had a Buick. My grandmother said it rode like a couch. That's why I'll never buy Buick and drive fun-to-drive cars like the Honda Fit.

Where did I say Hondas were perfect? My 1993 Civic Si was one of the worst cars I have ever owned. I stupidly traded my awesome used 325e for it and regretted every minute. It went back to the dealer EIGHT times for the SAME sunroof malfunction. I should have lemon lawed it, but there was too much else going on in my life to devote time to that.

It was my FIRST Honda built in America and I wouldn't buy another built here. But I do want to get a Fit since it has good reliability and is equally fun to drive as my 89 Civic Si.

Americans can't build cars and I can't figure out why. Just look at the reliability of BMWs, Mercedes, and the rest built here vs. their cars built in Europe/Japan - yeah there are exceptions, but those are not the rule. My friend's Japanese-built Scion was near flawless, yet the Camry reviews here are less than stellar.

As for domestics, according this website and others, the really only reliable American cars are the ones not built here - PT Cruiser, Buick LaCrosse, and Ford Fusion. Explain that, I certainly can't.

Yes I will take a Buick Century because it truly is as old as a buggy and horse technology.
