2002 Honda CR-V EX review from North America
"A versatile load carrier with good power, but some concerns about quality of materials"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Interior plastic trim & panels seem to damage easily. There are permanent scars already on doors, glove box lid and panels in the rear trunk area.
Gear shift very "notchy" moving into first and second gears. Honda dealership thought this would improve with use, but it is still a pain most times shifting from 1 to 2.
Paintwork is fragile - stone chips have taken paint AND primer off, right down to bare metal. Winter road gravel is the culprit, but paint chipping to bare metal has occurred in all ares of the vehicle, including the roof! Local Honda service facility has logged this problem.
Engine "stumbles" sometimes, often when shifting from 2 to 3 and also after lifting off the gas and then trying to accelerate.
General comments?
Engine is quiet, reasonably powerful, smooth and with good response. Highway passing with 3 people and a load of skiing gear is confidence inspiring.
Do not like the tinted rear windows on the EX, makes it more difficult when backing up in low light conditions or in badly lit parking lots.
Seats are excellent, good support and all the right adjustments.
Great flexibility for carrying loads. I have had two mountain bikes, cooler, food and camping gear for two weeks stuffed in the back with no problem.
