1985 Honda CRX Si review from North America

"Incredibly cheap to modify and maintain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The usual stuff for these cars: CV boots need to monitored closely. If they aren't detected early enough= new axles.

Timing belt/H20 replacement EVERY 90K--important!

Rear hatch struts do wear out easily.

Squeaks and rattles dash/hatch.

Tranny/clutch usually last about 100K.

New alternator, battery, ball joints, brakes, suspension needed when I bought it.

General comments?

I've had 4 1985 CRX's, all of them Si's. The stock car is exceptionally fun to drive and a great commuter car. Currently, the one I have now has a Del Sol (Del SLO to the real crx fans) DOHC VTEC motor, currently with 72K on it. I have also done extensive work, upgrading the brakes (swapped from 1st gen integra, including rear disks), suspension, I/H/E, 15" ultra light performance rims and tires, CTR cams, HID lights (custom), VAFC, etc. This car is an absolute BEAST! It currently puts out about 180hp (properly tuned). Given the exceptional light weight of the car (about 1850 lbs.), that's good for about 5.4secs in 0-60mph, and 1/4 mile time of 13.2. Can you say "goodbye" mr. Corvette? And the best part is you still get the legendary reliability of the honda name, convenience of a hatchback, and 30mpg! Can't beat Honda! Now, if my wife would only let me get another one...:)
