Indetermineable over heating problem.
Ran fantastic, only overheated on
very warm summer days. Mostly while stuck in traffic on the highway.
The problem is in your radiator hoses. I ran across the same problem, while the car is in motion, the temp. is fine, but once sitting in traffic it begins to over heat. It is due to the hoses and thermostat dry rotting there are 4 main hoses which are pretty hard to come by so they need to be ordered. It may be a little costly to repair, I brought it to a local honda dealership to repair. But, after that car does not over heat. Hope this hekps your problem.

With these Honda CRX's the Dealer is the BEST place to get them repaired. The CRX is easy to work on in some respects and a lot of mechanics THINK they know what their doing, but they don't. The mechanics at the Honda dealership know everything about these old Hondas.
Many people do not realize that the transmission on the 84-87 CRX requires 10W30 MOTOR OIL. Yes Motor Oil, not transmission Gear Oil which will eat the seals up. I could not believe this, but the dealership confirmed it. Call your Honda dealer and ask them yourself what type of oil the manual transmission on an 84-87 Honda CRX uses.
Many of these old Hondas died a slow death due to owners attempting home repairs that went bad and people doing modifications to the engine.
I have a 1987 CRX Si that I took to the dealer after I purchased it. They found numerous problems such as incorrect spark plugs, to misadjusted belts, Incorrect gear fluid in the transmission, etc. For $300.00 they completely went through the engine and corrected everything, now the car runs like a brand new honda.
