Well since I got this car Nov. 02 from a dealer that was not sure of its past, I was concerned about the car's condition.
My first oil change proved to me that the car had some engine problems that needed to be fixed before anymore driving went on. I have since then had to rebuild the motor from the ground up.
I had to resize the rods and crank, being that whoever had it before me didn't maintain oil changes on the car. I also put new gaskets, rings, bearings, alternator and TLC into my engine. The manifold was cracked (which was possibly part of the problem) so I replaced that with headers. After this $1,300 and 3 month rebuild process, I got my car running like a kitten again. Only to drive it 300 miles and find that the transmission needs repairing now (new 4th and 5th gears, synchronizers, + much more).
I am not sure yet what this is going to cost me, but it is well worth it in my eyes!
Even though I don't really have the money for my cars repairs, and my visa card is well worn out, I have never seen a well maintained Honda not want to run. My last 92 Prelude had 190,000 miles when I got it and for the 7 months I had her, she ran like a tiger. Always wanting to go and never causing me any problems, besides a oil pan leak which was caused by my suburban driving and the car's height.
I shouldn't have many, if any problems with this Del Sol as soon as I get the transmission back from the shop.
I also have a friend that has a Del Sol, and even though the lady that had the car before him didn't TLC it like she should have, it is the perfect example of a Honda Race Machine still wanting to tear up the streets.
I just bought myself a Del sol last night. I am in love with it. it saves me a lot of money when it comes to gas. :-D's.
Sounds like my Del Sol when I bought it from the original owner in Nov. of '06. I planned on re-painting it red again, which I did, it looked really hot when I got it back from paint, then a few days later the motor blew, after replacing that, the tranny went. So far I've painted the car, replaced front and rear bumpers with real Honda ones before paint, replaced motor, trans, clutch, brakes, battery, stereo, speakers, antenna, drivers side door handle, ashtray, steering wheel, floormats, trunk seals, exhaust, and installed coilovers, (adjustable suspension). I have another Civic and Integra that run perfect, both are highly modified for drag racing, turbo etc... I have maintained those two cars for years and no problems. Now this comment speaks to those who don't maintain their car, I absolutely LOVE my Del Sol and would NEVER get rid of it!!! Clearly my problems were caused by complete lack of maintenace and ignorance by the previous owner, with some TLC the Del Sol is a great, fun car. I have no complaints with the quality, fit or finish, it's just as good as my other Honda's, and the top comes off!!!
