Roof began squeaking from the very start. Problem occurs in warm weather. Dealer attempted fix three times to no avail. Honda gave up. I live in Northern California, where the weather is mild, so I don't have a problem with leakage like other reviewers do. A friend with exactly the same model has the same problem.
Driver's seat is torn. Bought seat covers, which raised the seat position by an inch or so. I'm six feet tall, so now my head scrapes the interior roof. Workaround for this is to recline the seat slightly. I prefer a straight back sitting posture, but have adapted to this position.
Other than that, only regular maintenance.
This is a great, fun car. Average mileage 31 mpg (roughly half city and half highway.)
For a small car, it's heavier than you would think. Handles very well. Steering responsive, tight.
You need to lubricate the tubing around the roof with silicon spay lubricant every six months to stop the squeeking and any leaks.
Dear Poster:
01. Regarding the seat cover. I would recommend that you consider another set of seat covers for your del sol. I found one that I really find very comfortable at Saddleman. com (try Google. com to locate it). It has great lumbar support, but doesn't really add that much to the hight of the seat except on the sides. The two that I obtained (one for each seat) are leatherette and I even had a policeman (no, he had not pulled me over!) ask if they were leather seats.
02. Related to "01" above; if you were able to become accustomed to the higher elevation of the seat due to your current seat cover I would highly recommend that you attempt to become accustomed to sliding your seat back as far as you can until you are forced to use the straight-arm driving position whilst holding the steering wheel (remember, also that the steering wheel is (ever) so slightly adjustable (up and down) ). This straight-arm driving position is how true sports racing car drivers maneuver their cars during competition. I'm short (5' 6") but this is how I always drive because it gives you the very best control of your vehicle.
03. Regarding the squeaking targa roof lining I agree with the other poster to your contribution...that of the silicon spray and you can obtain this spray made specifically for your targa roof lining (and other rubber/plastic seals) at most any Honda dealership. You may have to perform the function more often than every six months, but the previous poster is correct with regard to the solution of those squeaks!
Good Luck.
Svele Bat (name of my del sol)
