We've had the van for 20,000 miles; bought it used at 130,000 miles because it was a Honda, which is known for its reliability. What a joke!
The TCS light and the check engine light came on, and they told me that it was a faulty torque converter, the O2 sensor and the catalytic converter needed replaced, as well as a NEW TRANSMISSION!!! I contacted Honda, but since my car is out of warranty, the only thing they can do is offer 25% off a new transmission, which runs between $4500 and $6000 for the Odyssey (according to Honda -- even though an independent shop offered me a rebuilt transmission for about $3000...). That's too much money for a car, which according to KBB is now worth only between $4100 and $6000.
I will never buy another Honda van, even though I truly love the car. I bought a Toyota already, and will drive the Oddy until it falls apart, since I cannot sell it to anyone in good conscience.
I own an '01 odyssey and have had three transmissions replaced already and it's in for number FOUR right now with only 141,000 miles on it.
I love my VAN and would probably get another.
Seems that 'problem Trans' is specific to models circa 2001

The Honda Odyssey of these years had problems because they were manufactured in the USA. Different V6 engine, different tranny all made in the USA. The previous model which I own is made in Japan and is like a tank. Don't have to change anything but the oil, tires routinely when they go bald, etc. Just general maintenance.
Hate to say it, but you're lucky they're even offering you a discount with the amount of miles on that vehicle and the age.. Most automotive manufacturers would tell you to take a hike!
