1988 Honda Prelude Si review from Australia and New Zealand
"It is not a car if it is not Honda"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Crashed in to the back of a Mazda RX-7 during a Hot4s cruise.
I had almost bald tires at the time and it was down hill so it locked up and slid. Never again will I drive with such low tread left on the tires.
Otherwise it had been a great car.
Insurance company paid for all the repairs and the crash repairer didn't hold back on the service either. Got new front bumper, lights, radiator,
bonnet and paint job. Not bad considering the excess was only $1000aus.
General comments?
Bought it at dealer who was using it for his own cruise car.
Never had anything go wrong with it at all except for the accident.
4WS has spoilt me for all other cars now. I just can't get over how easily and accurately the steering on this car is. I took the car into a 30km/h corner at over 120km/h and came out unscathed except for a few flat spots and scorch marks on the tires.
Nice comfortable bucket seats. I often go for cruises around town for hours at a time.
Very easy car to work with, it would seem.
Put in a Sony CD deck, 2x 6.5" Alpine rear speakers, 2x 5.25" Sony front, 222w Sony amp in the glove box, 12" Clarion sub woofer with box in the boot, 4x 12" blue neon tubes front, rear and side of the car, and my favorite, a pair of ultra bright green SiJ fog lights.
Car now looks cooler and sounds great.
Neon light makes my car look like it is hovering.
Only bad part about the car is the clearance between the tyres and the guards. It simply look like it is riding too high, even though it is very low already. Not to worry though, I will be putting in a set of Koni shock absobers with lowered springs to make the car look right, which should be 2" lower.
And I've already got a set of 17" Momo Extreme alloys on order, which looks amazing on a Prelude, especially a white one.
Further plans include a large amp with a second sub woofer. Larger exhaust system. Darker tint on the windows.
