1987 Honda Prelude Si from North America - Comments

"I bought it for 1k, it had low miles, so I decided it may be worth to fix up"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The water pump broke at around 95,000 miles, just 3 day's after I bought it.

I started to notice an oil leak around the valve cover area, pouring down towards the manifold and the left side of the valve cover (facing car).

The wink head lights are stuck on the up right position. The Moonroof leaks if driven through a car wash, but is OK when driven in the rain. The car sometimes does not start on park position, but if placed on nuetral will start up (I guess a safety switch on the transmition).

General comments?

Aside from the mentioned problems which I'm putting towards wear and tear due to it's 95k miles, a mileage which the little stuff starts to go bad, the car seems to drive real well and has a smooth suspension and quick acceleration. The car also has good gas mileage, I'm hoping to keep it for the next 5 years. Is there anything else that will go wrong? I hope not. If

anyone has tips on this car pls. post something.

I do like it and its very cheap on Insurance, I'm toonew an owner to really know the personality of this vechicle, but I feel optomistic about it.

Do you know what it was leaking oil from and what needed to get fixed?

The Honda Prelude is an excellent car. Some of the minor issues actually do not happen with these cars unless the owner is neglegent. I have an awsome red 87/SI w/140K and none of the mention has happened.

Advise: Make sure you change the timing belt at 95,000 miles. Use Synthetic oil on timely oil change intervals. Replace shocks to keep that sleek ride only the 87 Honda Prelude can offer.

I just bought an 1987 red 5speed 2.0SI prelude. It has power everything, and most everything works, but my speedometer lights doesnot work (fixable) cruise control switch burnt out (fixable) and drivers door has a busted lock switch (fixable) the car has 120k on it and it purrs like a kitten.

I have a little red 87 Honda Prelude which I love to drive. However, it has started dying out when at idle... replaced the battery and fuel filter, but no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
